My first statement would be..... YOU CAN AFFORD i cant afford 800 dollars a month !
That is an insane rate ! OK, maybe if you were driving a new Porsche 911 S4. But on a Ford Focus ?

please tell me there is something i can do...

I'm not sure what satte you live in, but if it is one of the one's that we write Auto Insurance, I can certainly find you a much, MUCH lower rate.

Go to an online comparison site and get quotes from different car insurance companies. with your driving tickets, you might still receive high quotes -- around $300 to $400.

Why are you driving a focus anyway? If you're only 18, you should ask your parents to give you another car because this is a race car and it is rated as one of the riskier cars today. You're more prone to get into an accident and break-ins.

One site I used was http://www.autoquotenow.com, I saved around $267 by comparing rates of 3 car insurance companies. Good luck in your search!

Chances are, you will need a find an insurer that specializes in "high risk" drivers. Most of the big carriers (Allstate, State Farm, et al) don't like to write policies for drivers in this category, but there are some smaller companies that do. Try a smaller company in your state or an independent insurance agent... and try to slow down a little.

HI Justin,

One key factor is how long ago you received those tickets and what they are for. Generally after three years, traffic infractions like speeding tickets will be removed from your record, putting you in a much better position to obtain insurance.

Honestly, you will not find good rates, as you have three strikes against you at the moment:

-multiple citations,
-under age 25, and
-male

Driving without insurance is simply not a viable option either. It is not only against the law, but it could easily jeopardize your financial future should you be involved in an accident.

Insurance companies don't like to advertise this, but they generally insure the car, and not the driver. That means if you used a friend or parent's car for critical trips, you would be covered (as long as you remain a legal driver).

Given that, I would counsel you to swallow hard, sell the car, and bank the huge insurance premium you won't have to pay. Then give generous gas & maintenance money to family members and friends who are willing to loan you their vehicles. Then don't get any more tickets!

Once your tickets "age off" your account, your rates will come down substantially, especially if you can qualify for other discounts (like "good student" designation). At that time, owning a car will be a more affordable proposition for you.
