I just found a check that I forgot to deposit that is over a year and a half old. Will I still be able to deposit it?

probably not -- I had an old paycheck bounce once. The best thing to do is to contact the issuer, explain the problem, and get them to cut you a new check.

Hi Erin,

Assuming the account the check was written on is still open, banks typically do have policies concerning "stale dated" checks (i.e. 6-12 months old) that do not require honoring them.

I would call the issuing bank if practical and ask them their policy. If that isn't workable, I'd talk with someone at your bank and explain the situation, just to make sure you wouldn't be paying fees if it is returned.
