If you already have a relationship with an insurance provider (say you have an auto insurance policy) then I would start there. Often times insurance companies will give you a deal if you take out more than one policy with them.

This site gives you access to a bunch of companies at once.

Here at FiLife we're building out a directory and reviews of renters insurance companies. You can find it here. Thing is, there aren't any reviews in there since we're just getting going. We'd love it if you'd share the info you find during your hunt in our review section.
