The stimulus bill includes a one year "patch" for the AMT. This is Congress' way of saying they realize that the AMT is a problem but they still won't commit to fixing it permanently. So, for 2009, the AMT exemption amounts have been bumped up to $70,950 for married couples and $46,700 for individual taxpayers.
