How do i claim money in a savings account in a bank that no longer exists (Irving Federal savings and loans association)?

My grandfather opened a savings acount for me in 1987 with the Irving Federal Savings and Loan Association in Illinois, however, that bank is no longer in service, but i have money that was not yet claimed. The last deposit was in 1993, but the savings book was just found recently. My grandfather has passed away, and i was wondering how to receive my money.

Hi Morgan,

Your best bet is to call the state treasurer's office for information. Here's the link: http://www.cashdash.net/

There is a section on the site that let's you search for unclaimed property: http://www.treasurer.il.gov/programs/cash-dash/cash-dash.aspx

hope that helps,
Kristen
