I got mine at 18. I would try your bank first, then American Express. Go with a non-rewards card which will give you a lower APR and increase your chances of being accepted. Now im 22 and have over 50k of credit line (never carry a balance). I would stay away from "Student" credit cards personally. Never understood the difference other than less benefits and weird rewards. Just make sure to pay it off every month and you will have no problem getting credit.

Actually yes because I'm 19 and I got a credit card. I tell you form experience, however they just don't hand them out to anyone you have to be college.

Yes, particularly if you are enrolled in college. Many student cards are designed as "first cards" for people obtaining degrees.
