Confused asked 22 days ago in Prepaid and Secured Credit Cards

If my fraud claim is denied, can I go to jail for filing it? Can I amend my fraud complaint?

I recently filed a fraud claim on my card because a merchant from europe charged it up to the tune of $2500. I didn't recognize the merchant at all, as the description the credit card company had for the merchant is in no way related to the actual charge. I am now remembering that I had authorized a $50.00 charge and thinking that it was charged through this merchant and they decided to take some extra. Can I call and amend my claim? or change it do a billing dispute? I have already returned an affidavit of unauthorized use and I don't want to go to jail for perjury because I forgot about this one charge, that by the way, the amount does not match the charge either. I authorized $50.00 and my card was charged $49.99. I never received the product I bought either so either way the original charge is fraudulent, but I can't remember if it was a securecode transaction or not.

A claim of fraud should still stand if the merchant charged more than agreed. You can not be charged with filing a false complaint based on the events your describe. You should also dispute this charge at once with your CC provider both by phone and by certified-return reciept letter. There could be an honest error by the merchant as well, contact the merchant and attempt to resolve this as well as getting the productthat has not been recieved. Good Luck
