Hi my daughter is 15 and I would like to put her money in some closed end funds because I like the mix of preferred stocks and bonds that most of them offer. Can you recommend some specific ones? Thanks

Hi abrown50 -

Thanks for the question. I don't recommend specific funds to users. But Morningstar has a good forum that discusses closed-end fund ideas. You can find it here.

A few more general words of wisdom:
1.) Read our guide to closed-end funds before investing in them. It provides a good overview and also tips on how to choose the best one. Are you sure you want to go this route over traditional mutual funds?

2.) Get your asset allocation right. This means picking the right mix of stock funds and bond funds. If your daughter's money will be invested for a long time - then you want to put more in stocks. This asset allocation calculator helps figure out how much should be invested in stocks and how much should be put into bonds.

3.) Be mindful of fees. Manager fees will cut into your returns. Try to find a solid low-cost option.

Hope this helps,
Kristen
