Mortgage

Hi,
I have student visa. I go to school in USA. I am PhD student and I have teaching assistantship. How likely am I to get approval for mortgage? I mean how likely am I to receive loan for a new house?

great if you go to bank of america. dont have to be a citizen to qualify for mortgages there

Hi, I'm Ali, the real estate guru. You can get a mortgage loan without have a social security number -- foreign nationals should get what's called an ITIN -- international tax identification number -- from the IRS, and some banks will lend you money off that.

The problem is that in the "housing bubble" days, a lot of foreign nationals got mortgages who shouldn't (just like a lot of Americans got mortgages who shouldn't). As a result, credit standards have tightened -- I would recommend that you save until you can put 10% down before you try to buy a house.
