Spacegirl,
Generallly, a new financial advisor will (or at least, should) want to gather information about your situation, especially if you are going through a comprehensive financial planning process with them.

A common list of paperwork that an advisor might request include:
- Tax returns for the past 1-3 years
- Statements for all of your various investment and retirement accounts
- Recent Social Security statement
- Information on any of your pensions
- Information on your various life and disability policies, and often other insurance policies as well
- Recent pay stub
- Mortgage information

In addition, most financial advisors will also have a data gathering packet of their own, with information for you to fill out.

Of course, if you're not going to be getting a full financial plan, your advisor may not need as much of this information. However, an advisor going through a true consultative process with you should want to know as much information as possible about your situation, to ensure you receive proper recommendations.

I hope that helps a little bit!
