Supplemental Cancer Insurance and Other Coverage

I have an AFLAC Cancer Policy. I also have medical, dental and optical insurance through my employer. My wife was diagnosed with cancer about 2 years ago. My medical insurance has paid for surgery, chemo, etc. My AFLAC insurance has also paid for these procedures. I have been told by AFLAC and others that the cancer insurance is IN ADDITION to the coverage through my employer.
What do I tell my medical insurance provider when they ask whether I have any additional insurance coverage?
this is different from a situation where, say, my wife would also have coverage through her employer and I would have insurance through mine.
I am worried that I will have to give my employer's insurahce company all the money I have received through my AFLAC insurance.
thanks

Not so. Aflac does not coordinate with health insurance, a common misconception. Therefore, when they are asking for additional insurance, they are referring to health insurance. Aflac is assurance protection.

Hi stuckert,

If I understand you correctly, you have been paid for the same procedures twice. That is, you've effectively profited from your wife's illness to the tune of the cost of her treatments. Have I got that right?

In any case, then you need to honestly answer the medical insurer's question. To not do so would expose you to fraud charges, which you do not want to be involved in. Depending on the wording of the insurer's question, you may or may not have to disclose the exact nature of the policy you have.

As to how much you'd have to pay back to your employer, that I'm not sure of. If they asked for it all back, you would likely have a solid argument that they supplemental AFLAC policy should at least cover all your deductible and out-of-pocket expenses.

Best of luck to you and best wishes to your wife.
