Temporary Freeze Removal?
I froze my credit a year ago to sleep a bit easier after a seeming close call, but now I want to apply for a new credit card. The credit card company has offered me two options -- either I temporarily remove the freeze myself via the credit reporting agency or I provide my PIN directly to the credit card company. Which is better/safer/easier?

Tammy - You should take care of thawing and refreezing your credit files on your own. It's much safer to do it that way. One of the value's of these new credit freezing services is that you have almost complete control over who has access to your credit files and credit scores. Giving out your PIN to anyone, even a legitimate lender, could lead to a compromise of your credit data.
My suggestion is to notify the lender that you will thaw your credit
files on your own. Let them know what dates they will be available and ask them to pull your credit file on that day. Then you can refreeze them after the lender has gotten what they need in order to process your credit application. Most of the current generation of freeze services are an "add on" to a credit monitoring subscription so you'll probably receive an alert when the credit inquiry is posted to your credit file. Then you'll know for sure that they've pulled your file. As you probably know there is a small charge to lift the freeze but it’s worth the price to keep your credit data safe.
Thanks, Dean.!
