What federal student loan forgiveness programs are out there? How do I find them? (I am an OT that treats kids with disabilities.)?

I already know about the public service program where my payments are income contingent for 10 years and then they forgive the rest. Are there any others that will forgive some or all of my loans before 10 years. My payments are killing me!

There are several up-front loan forgiveness programs for federal education loans for working in particular careers, such as teaching, civil service law, and public defenders, or working for certain federal agencies. These forgive a portion of your Stafford and/or Perkins loans for each year of employment. This is in contrast with the public service loan forgiveness program, which cancels the remaining amount owed after 10 years of full-time employment (a back-end loan forgiveness program).

See www.finaid.org/loans/forgiveness.phtml for more information.
