Ameriprise Financial Reviews
I was not happy at all with Ameriprise. The adviser would call me in to meet with him, and drone on with boring conversation -- mere chit-chat to waste time. I didn't even realize I was being charged for a financial planning consultation, all the while getting no information and being bored by uninteresting conversation about life in general.
Furthermore, the amount of fees and "contract charges" that were deducted from my account were never explained, seemed arbitrary, and far exceeded what some interest or profit I made on the investments in which my money was placed. I am leaving them. I feel a bit like I've been scammed. I NOT work with Ameriprise.

I have used them for financial planning and insurance. The financial planning is not acceptable for me - I want information that is online and everything they gave me was print.
The home insurance however is pretty great. The rates are low and the customer service outstanding.

Ameriprise does offer the largest network of financial advisors in the country. That said, there are going to be good and bad advisors in that group, surely. Ameriprise has done a great deal in training and investments in their advisor force in the last few years. I think the old practices of selling your own brand has gone out the door several years back, especially with tighter regulatory "watch-dogging."

I used Ameriprise for financial planning for two years when I was in school. I hired Ameriprise because I didn't have time to manage my investments myself.
My experience was extremely poor. After I graduated, I audited all the accounts my advisor put me in. I was in mostly Ameriprise institutional funds that were one-star-rated by morningstar!
I asked my financial advisor why he put me in such low quality funds to which he had no good reply (how could he?). Needless to say, I closed my account and took it to Fidelity.
