Billing itself as the "Bank of Opportunity," Charlotte based Bank of America strives to live up to that promise. With 5,000 locations and numerous ATM's in 35 states, Bank of America is the closest thing to a national bank that exists today. It offers online banking nationwide, including brokerage and private banking through U.S. Trust. With the ability to lend in all 50 states, through credit cards, mortgages and home equity loans, Bank of America can reach anyone througout the United States.

In mid-2008 Bank of America acquired Countrywide Financial in a stock deal.  Countrywide now operates as a subsidiary of Bank of America Corporation under the title  "Bank of America Home Loans".

I paid $400.00 to Bank of America to lock in a rate on home re fi loan. This was back in May. Many months have passed and they are ready to close and my rate has gone up. I was told when I started the process it would take months to complete because Bank of America was very busy. I was told that by paying the $400.00 to lock my rate my rate it would be locked until the loan could be completed. Days before I am able to close I find my rate has gone up, J at BofA told me it was because my loan took so long. I feel I deserve the money I paid to lock the rate in back. I have provided everything they have requested in a timely manner and delay it is due to no fault of mine. J told me the reason for the rate increase was because the loan has taken so long. When I asked her why she said it was because of paper work that hadn’t taken to long. It was a Subordination Clause that I had no hand in what so every and the delay was because Bank of America didn’t do it in a timely manner. I called my Visa Company, also Bank of America, and they said they could not refund the money because more than 60 days had past. The Visa dept forwarded me to the mortgage dept. I was then forwarded to my processor who won't take my call and was then forwarded me to a number that doesn't work. 2 November 2009 1445 I spoke with K in regards to situation she admits to problems on the Bank of Americas end. K called back and said they will resolve the issue today and they would pay for the extension. K told me J would be calling me back with the details. J called me back and apparently, unknown to me, there had been multiple extensions because Bank of America took so long with the deal and they were only going to pay for the next extension one of the one that had already happened. Again I was told that buy paying the $400.00 I was locked in and no extension was needed.
I feel like they lured me I with a good deal only to switch me into another deal that cost almost an additional $3,000 dollars.

I have been banking with BofA for 10 years and have been with my company just as long (and depositing my checks). They placed a hold on my account "...because this protects the customer as well as the bank..." and for no other reason. Now my account is overdrawn and I will incur other fees. Customer service can only tell me that they are sorry for the inconvenience and the overdraft fees will be refunded once the check is taken off hold (which won't be for 5 days). Needless to say, after the hold clears, I am closing my account. I am so angry right now, all I can say is...worthless bastards!

I never had a single problem as a former Countrywide customer. As soon as Bank of America took over my two separate mortage accounts it has been a royal pain. I had, and am trying to continue to have, my mortgage payment drafted directly from my checking accounts. They keep screwing it up somehow and appologizing, yet they can't reverse their NSF fee. Each time they connect me to payplan verification they will not give me a confirmation # in regards to the verbal tranasction. I am firmly convinced they make it a policy of causing problems to initiate fees.

I am not happy with them. I got so many NSF fees from them that I couldn't pay it back. You would think that if your checking account doesn't have enough in there, it should be declined. Even when I did have money in my savings to back up my checking account's balance, I still got charged NSF fees. Like seriously? They charge me 30 bucks to transfer money from my savings to my checking account? Its my money, and they are charging me 30 dollars to have their computer system automatically transfer money to my checking account to cover the deficit. Now since i couldn't pay back their insane fees that they charged me, I lost my checking account and had to get a Second Chance Checking account >=( Seriously bank policies need to be changed asap. If you need a second chance checking account you can get more info about it here: http://secondchancecheckingbanks.net/

It will save you some time instead of looking around at places for info

Went to close Countrywide CD today, went to the BofA branch in Pacific Beach - San Diego, CA. Ms. Duffy told me that they would have to mail me the cashier's check, then she called someplace, then she called the help line. She had no idea how to do the transaction and had to be walked through it, then she took me up to the teller to get the cashier's check, because of course they can issue me a cashier's check, didn't want to give me my ID back because per her words "the teller needs to know who she's releasing the funds to" well since another branch employee walked me to the teller she didn't even ask to see my ID. When Ms. Duffy told the teller that a CD is being closed the teller actually responded "Absolutaly NOT" her name was Malia. This was totally unprofessional! When I called to speak to the branch manager i was on hold for more than 15 minutes due to their non-customer service voice prompting ****, when I finally got to a live person I was told that the branch manager wouldn't take my call because she was opening up an account. Now anyone can open an account even a teller, and the branch manager should be working on customer complaints. THIS BANK IS THE WORST OF THE WORST....

Former Countrywide customer. The Countrywide Savingslink acct. was
changed into a BoA account. I lost "next day" ACH transfers (unless I
want to pay a new fee, $10). I lost free ACH withdrawls, unless I want
to pay a new fee of $3). Monthly fee unless I maintain min balance.
Big bank fees. Less service. Savingslink, RIP. I miss you.

Worst of the worst. Specially when it comes to home loans. We're now in our 2nd month (and 2nd extension) of trying to secure a home loan through BofA. To put it quite bluntly, they are the biggest load of dullards I've ever experienced. They misplace all of their documentation, so I have had to spend DAYS re-faxing/emailing/mailing everything back to them. Good news is, once you send out all the papers they will take 4 to 7 days to get back to you only to tell you they are still missing most of the documents they need to continue with processing the loan (the exact same documents you JUST sent them).

Now that we are mostly beyond the never ending document phase, we're now in the bank-appraisal phase. At least that'll be fast! WRONG. Nope, in fact their knowledge of appraisal seems to be non-existent. They need "comps" of other houses in the neighborhood. The Appraiser gets 5, everything looks good... Well, I thought everything looked good. 5 comps aren't good enough - nope! 6 are needed obviously! Problem is no one at BofA talks to each other. What should have been a simple "Oh, well, here's 1 more comp!" has turned into 2 extensions on closing. We’re upset; the seller is upset, all of the agents are upset. The only people who aren’t upset are the folks at BofA. I truly get the feeling that they could care less that people’s entire lives are on hold while they enjoy the bliss offered by ignorance. If there’s a problem at BofA, well then it’s actually someone else’s problem and they need to take care of it.
Buying a home is supposed to be this wonderful and exciting process but BofA has single-handedly turned it into a daily grind of frustration and depression. When it’s time to get your home-loan, do yourself a favor and steer clear of Bank of America.

I just closed my BOA accounts. My wife and I were just married last Friday. Of course with all the craziness going on with the wedding, I didn't deposit my paycheck. Well, we didn't use the ATM card over the honeymoon weekend, so i figured, no problem. At the first of the week I put the check in and then later checked the account to find out that I had incurred 115 dollars in overdraft fees from being 30 dollars short.

I went in to talk to them but they didn't care. I told them that it was my fault but we went on our honeymoon and that 115 bucks is actually a whole lot of money to us right now. The manager checked to see if they had relieved any fees for me in the past. After seeing that they hadn't, she was authorized to offer me one 35 dollar fee back, like she was doing me some great favor. She seemed completely cold, and heartless. I canceled my two accounts and my wife canceled her three. They seemed glad to see us go. I suppose they had every right to do what they did to us. Maybe a little compassion from you banker is just too much to ask.

have been dealing with these same situations for 2 days and been to 5 BOA centers after customer service ran me around FOREVER. The bank managers make you feel like speaking with them is a serious inconvenience,as if they are royalty or something. I never met such RUDE people in my life. I left that bank and they can eat there silly fees, which I was told I had the option to opt out of initially anyway. They said if I wanted to opt out of overdraft I could and I said absolutely,if my transfers do not make it and the account is low i do not want there favors to the tune of 35,00 for a 1.90 transaction, just put a hold on the account or better yet start sending people "alerts" that there account is low.. My account had ALWAYS been perfect till a transfer from another bank took longer than they said it would..They are nasty people, even if they cannot help you with the fees there is no reason to be such idiots about it..
