Transactions are held, deposits, checks, and debits are rearranged to benefit the bank to be able to charge NSF fees. Deposits are the LAST thing to be credited after rearranging debits from highest to lowest in order to throw the account in the lowest, or negative, balance quicker to assess fees. Then, deposits are made. This policy adversely affects those who may be stretching payroll to payroll during these economic times and are a disgrace. I think the money wasted on banks should have been spent on investigating criminal intent policis. BB&T is nothing short of criminal and frad. I would rate this bank as *0*.

*****The sad thing is that the local advisory boards that the bank courts to help them in the local communities are typically business owners and those elite in our communities and they have no idea who they are representing.*****

IT IS BAD WHEN LEGISLATION IS REQUIRED FOR GREEDY BUSINESS PEOPLE TO DO THE RIGHT THING.

I've just opened a bank account with BBT in april this year.. always had enough money to cover all expenses... these last few days i was running low on cash as i was expecting my last paycheck and i had a car crash and was forced to use my check card, knowing that i was going to be charged overdraft fee (even thou on my other account with wachovia they don't charge you overdraft until the charge is POSTED, not when it's still PENDING). I went back and calculated line by line my balance (since they don't give you your actual balance) and before the last 2 transactions i had 31.56 left and my last 2 transactions totaled 32.77. While they were holding the 32.77 from that afternoon, they posted a transation i had made 5 days before and then the next day posted the last 2 transactions, that way charging me 3 fees instead of the one i was expecting to pay.. and inquirying about how this was happening i was charged the 2$ fee for callng not the 3rd time but the second time (which goes against their fee.. program). I'm just waiting for all transations to post, for my direct deposit to clear so i can cancel it and i'll close my account. This isn't my primary account but the one i have joint with my boyfriend as we're starting to form a new life together, but i'll probably end up putting him on my wachovia account. I'm not fussing about BBT anymore. eventually they'll run out of people to scam and succumb! (and i was wondering why the person that helped me open the account was so nice and always called me to ask me why i wasn't using more the bank account... they're pulling with nails and teeth of anybody they can fool into staying).

You would think that BB&T might check the Internet reviews on their service and take a hint. Not hardly.

I had a terrible experience with BB&T. They waited almost a week to POST A CASH DEPOSIT to my account. In the mean time they racked up about $800.00 worth of NSF Fees on my account. When I called them to ask about this, they said "Sorry, there is nothing we can do, you have to pay the fees." and I paid $2.00 to hear that from them.

I switched to Bank of America, and believe it or not I'm a lot happier! I thought that it was the "Huge Commercial Bank" mentality, that all Large Commercial Banks would rather just eat you up in fees and spit out the bones. But the staff at the local branch that I'm dealing with is GREAT. I've addressed a couple of overdraft fees that I was charged when a stop payment didn't stop a check from clearing and a company got paid twice. Bank of America was more than helpful in refunding my overdraft fees to me.

The GREATEST part about being a Bank of America Customer is, if you DEPOSIT CASH IT CLEARS THE NEXT DAY and is ready for you to spend. I am actually able to avoid overdraft fees with this bank by keeping my ledger balanced. I couldn't even do that with BB&T!

Terrible Bank. They do not care about the clients. All they care about is how much money they can make on NSF fees. The branch staff have no say in the refund process- its all computer automated. Upper Mgmt can make an exception but that never happens. Upper Mgmt. never cares about the clients just the bottom line.

The reviews below with 5 stars must be BB&T employess themselves! I only gave them 1 star because I couldnt give them zero stars. They bend you over and take $35 each time when its actually their fault. I dont understand how I deposit a check(the same check every two weeks that is), my receipt says I have been credited $100 of my deposit, I spend accordingly and you still charge me 3 NSF's. The amount that I am overdraft is $105. How can I be charged 3 NSF at $35 a pop and still be in the negative $105? Wouldnt I be more in the negative if I had really spent to much money? I go to the local branch and they tell me that I will never understand the system that they all go by because they have explained it to me already numerous times...that may be because it just simply doesnt make any damn sense. I call their customer service line 3 times(because the other 2 were rude and didnt "know what to tell you(me)," and they charge me $2! WOW...unreal. The info that the atm gives me is different from their(online rep) info. The days that I use my DEBIT card are different from when they say/post(This lady on the phone actually tried to tell me that I spent $144 dollars on a day when I didnt even leave my house!...hence me calling someone else and receiving a $2 charge) then they say that they wont reimburse me for the NSF charges because it wasnt a bank error...well who's error was it then?...my suggestion is to close your account, get a safe and keep cash!

BB&T like most everyone else has said is a terrible bank. My local branch (Bowling Green, KY) has some of the rudest people that do nothing but talk down to customers. I have reported them to the BBB and recommend everyone else that has issues with them to do the same.

I have to agree with BBT being more theives and crooks than anything else. I hate the fact that my money will be in my account and I can't touch it for two days because it has to "post" when I put 1,000 CASH in there. They also arrange your purchases so that they can obtain an overdraft charge. I can not wait to find another institution. The people in the small offices close to home are friendly but they have to abide by "policy" and Customer Service Reps for online banking are awful to deal with and they charge you two dollars for calling them. Give me a break. They are a rip off and I am contacting the BBB on them -- it may not help but how can you obtain overdraft when you put more than enough CASH in the bank. CASH is immediate. This is crazy. Do not go there, please -- unless you have thousands of dollars to throw away b/c that is ALL you would be doing with this institution.

They work the dates and numbers to gain the most NSF fees possible. I have been with them since 1992 when they were Security Federal and had 3 mortgages with them. Everything was fine until the last 2 years. Everything has gone downhill and I have had to close my account. I have direct deposit for years, for some reason my check didn't deposit and clear from my employer and they let me write checks and use my check card and covered all charges and charged me 2,000.00 in NSF fees. Not a phone call, an email or anything to alert me. I was not signed up for their new "alert" system b/c I didn't know about it. You would think they would let someone know, but it looks as though they would rather rack up on the fees. I am a single mother and I even thought my account was decent in the past, now I live paycheck to paycheck and I am so upset about this I don't know what to do. Anytime you call you are just a number and even though I have spent over a decade doing business with them they seem not to care at all and expect me to hand them a check for 2 grand. I don't know what to do. I have opened up an account with another bank and I am going to have to make payments to bband t to cover this HUGE charge. --my advice is to check your balance daily or every few days...just to keep yourself safe because they are theifs.

Terrible Straight Up Bank Fraud. I am a small business starting it on a shoestring, but I know how to bank at the age of 37. I have been banking with BBT less than a month with over 2k going thru the account. They have thus far somehow vanished 3 positive balances and have taken my past 8 deposits and spent them on NSF fees! I got smart and did print outs showing that they re arrange dates, sequences of withdrawls and depoisits and some transactions that posted out of a negative balance just vanished only to post to pending days later?! I had an ATM withdrawl in which it showed it was taken out that same day. Two days later my positive balance is gone, the 80.00 that was posted as a ATM vanished and my account is in the red. This has happened to me 3 times in a week, each time they eyeball my deposits, re arrange the transactions and take my money! This is pure Bank Fraud in the most evil form - STAY AWAY of you value your hard earned money. I will be starting a campaign against these crooks. And note.. if you sign up with them you waive your rights to participate in a class action law suite! Crooks!

I've had no issues with this bank whatsoever. Customer service is great. I applied for a home equity line once ... and got the decision the same day (funding 3 days or so later). Love the tellers at my branch... always so cheerful! In terms of other comments... I noticed that one person stated that he has his direct deposit returned... did you originally bank with a merged bank? I ask this because one of my friends was still using her old 1st virginia checks and they stopped accepting them ... as the merger was years ago and they dont use the same account and routing # anymore.... If you had an old routeing and account # with your company... im sure the same thing would happen... i dunno... just a thought! I have my mortgage with BB&T and love it! 8 years later and they are still servicing it! and well... ive not had any issues. In terms of fees... from what ive seen, its about the same as any other bank (though credit unions are a bit cheaper).
