Beneficial is the best bank in Pennsylvania and new Jersey. They have an account that meets anyones needs!! Everyone is so helpful and pleasant. I feel like a friend and not just another customer. As far as holding checks, it is their job to protect themselves and you as a customer. If a check you deposited was available right away and later came back after you had spent the money you would be in trouble financially. Any check can come back for any reason. I feel comfortable that I am being protected and would recommend this bank to everyone!!

What a horrible experience. Benefical Bank is not a people bank and always have the mindset of what's the bottomline for them. As a customer with my checking and savings account with them, I moved it. They put a hold on an IRS check for 10 days! What the heck! That's when I moved my account.
I have a mortgage with them currently and I am trying to refinance. The worst bank out there.

I transferred my checking account to Beneficial when I moved simply because they were right next door. Big mistake! They're fine with day to day banking but the few times I've deposited a large amount they've treated me like I'm under suspicion. One teller tried to tell me that a check from my father was no good before she even ran it. Of course it was fine when I spoke with the manager, but it shouldn't have come to that point. She hadn't even tried the check! And I've never bounced anything with them, far from it.
