A lot of hassle in the no hassle card. We use the card for our business and every two three months our card gets declined for security reasons. Although numerous times mentioned we travel a lot every time we have more than few transactions outside the primary state we get blocked. Kind of a pain to be stuck in an airport with a declined card trying to buy an $8 sandwich just because it’s KS. Stay away

I've been a customer for over 8 years. I got an offer years ago for 4.9%, so I took my son's college loans and transferred because of this low APR. It went up to 7.9% last year for no apparent reason. Yesterday received my bill and it went up to 17.9%. I always pay several $100 over my min. payment. I just took out a loan for over $25K from my 401K rather than pay their ridiculous rates. I feel sorry for those people that have no other recourse and will have to pay this rate for years to come. I've told my wife that we will never, ever do business with CapitalOne again. Beware !!!!

We had a $10,000 limit for many years with Capital One and always paid on time and carried a large balance at one point. We did however always pay more than the minimum and recently paid off the balance (exciting for us--took a lot of work).
We got a phone call and a letter last week stating that our credit limit had dropped to a mere $500!!! I called to make sure this was not a typo and to see what our actual limit was. It was indeed only $500!!!
I asked them how much they could raise the limit to as we had planned to use this card for our summer vactioning. We liked this card because it was a no annual fee rewards card. Anyways, they told me there was nothing they could do at this point in time.
So, needless to say, we closed the card. I refuse to do business with a company that does not reward or at lease do good business with customers that are competent and responsible with their credit!!!
CASE CLOSED!!

I've had this card for years, and until recently, when paper statements stopped coming, I encountered my first frustrating situation which hopefully now has been rectified. In all other respects from accuracy to rewards I have used this card nearly to the exclusion of any others. Beware, though, if this is your only card, it will destroy your personal credit rating, which seems to depend on personal cards only!!!

just terrible, i cancelled my card:
1. Your call is contantly disconnetected and they say they can never call back when disconnected.
2. They say they put notice on your account, but they never do that.
3. When they have to pay something, they ask you to send some document, and they say they never received it, probably because of USPS. Then they ask you to send a fax, but they say they never received any fax again, but my fax machine reports they had received. Hmmm....
Worst company in the US, avoid it
Capital One customer service & fraud procedures are really starting to frustrate me. They asked ME to call them, yet put me on hold for over 5 minutes after reconfirming my info several times. I'm glad they noticed a fraudulent charge, but I've had to close my account and reopen it three times already in the last 6 months or so. I do not make risky purchases online or anything...there's gotta be a better way to handle this.
If I could mark no stars for them I definately would. My credit score is 701. I did a balance transfer which is at 0.0% for one year after that my rate was supposed to go back to 8.9%. Now they have sent me a notice that because the economy is bad they are increasing rates. My rate will be 17.9. This is completely outrageous. Someone with good credit should never have a rate this high. I have never missed a payment or even paid the minimum on anything before. I even had my money market with them that had more money in it than my card balance was. So I am definately not a high risk customer.
I have contacted them and they really do not care about losing a customer. Even when I talked to them they encouraged me to close down my account. Obviously they have done something wrong if they are willing to lose customers.
I will never recommend anyone to Capital One and if you have Capital One I would find a way to pay off your card or find someone who actually cares about their customers.

If you have less than perfect credit you can usually still get a card with them. Beware, however, it will include a yearly fee and you MUST make payments on time or they will increase your % and start hounding you unmercifully. Use if you really need it, but remain cautious.
I also have mixed feelings about Capital one. While they are an easier card to obtain with less than perfect credit, if you mess up so much as once, they are quick to slap a penalty to you. For example, I have a friend who works for their collection services. They state that if someone is a perfect customer, I.e. have had a Capital one card for some time, and have been making timely payments with no interruptions, and if you have a low APR. Capital one will sometimes, "forget" to send your monthly paper statement in the mail. If you are even a day late paying the bill that you did not even receive (on purpose) they quickly tack on a higher APR in order for them to make more money off of your misfortune. Under the pretense that you should have known when your bill was due without having to be told. After all, it is YOUR responsibility, not theirs. Underhanded if you ask me.

I have mixed reviews with Capital One. I got my first credit card from them when I turned 18. I've made my timely payments and have even paid it off numerous times but they still refuse to up my credit line. It's still only $500 and I've had it for 5 years. It doesn't make sense to me!
