I was with Citizens Bank for 6+ years and I am very happy today that I closed the account and found another bank. I have had issues with Citizens in the past but I kept giving them more chances...not by choice since it's hard for me to get to a bank in the first place.

The first issue I had was after having my account for one year. I deposited money into the ATM and someone else deposited an empty envelope. Different deposit amount, different account #s and different hand writing but citizens messed up and took out my money. I got a call from Citizens bank from a very rude woman that mentioned I had committed an illegal act by falsely depositing money. A day later, they found out the error was on the bank side but it took two weeks for me to get my money back? How does that work? There was never an apology nothing.

Clearly I should have left the bank when I had this issue. Almost two weeks ago I had un-authorized charges to my account, I was very disappointed when I noticed Citizens re-arranged my withdrawals to maximize my overdraft fees. I figure no big deal, I will go to the bank and get this straighted out. because I wasn't supposed to have those charges in the first place.

The customer support was horrible to say the least! I wanted to close my account and open and new one because of the fraudulent charges, but they wouldn't do that, they did however help me cut my card...that was about it. When I asked about the charge they told me I should get my money back but i would not be getting my $429.00 back in over draft fees even though I didn't authorize the charges.

Talking about kicking a person when they are down. Some how, someone stole my debit card number, charged things without my authorization and you are going to keep the over draft fees? Does that seem right to you?

Bye Bye Citizens...I would think twice about opening an account here. It's one thing to not watch what you are spending, it's another to get your money "stolen" and than the bank taking advantage of you...Talk about kicking you while you are down!

I got laid off a few months ago and haven't been able to find a position that will keep me from sinking, this bank isn't doing me any favors. I overdrafted my account by $2, the fee they charge on using a foreign atm. I got hit with a $39 dollar fee and have been hit with 2 more $35 dollar fees because they charge you every 7 days that the account is overdue. Now let me ask you this, if you are unemployed and collecting unemployment that you receive every 2 weeks. how in the world do they expect you to be able to pay for it. We the people can help them out in their time of need, but when they are asked to return the favor they turn their backs. Other banks don't charge an overdraft for going over a few bucks and others don't charge a foreign AtM fee. Do your self a favor and explore other option.

I have been banking with Citizens for over 20 years, and I have never had a problem. Perhaps the people here posting about their bad experiences should suck it up, and start paying attention to HOW MUCH THEY SPEND. Take responsibility, balancing a checking account is not that hard, basic math skills only! I was fully advised of all fees, and guess what? They also MAIL you the info, so there is no excuse for you getting caught by "those sneeky bankers", other than being too lazy to READ the MATERIALS! I bet you all get mad when the car dealer makes money, right? Guess what- a bank is a business, and we didn't have to spend trillions to bail out Citizens, either. Buch of whiny dumbasses.

It is not your typical bank, seriously, it is a rip off. I had an over draft fee because of an overdraft protection fee they never told me about

I worked for Citizens in PA for almost 2 years. Fran, the Bucks County Regional Manager, pushes OD fees EXACTLY as described by many posts.

We were forced to open checking accounts that had excessive overdraft fees and monthly charges in order to ripoff the customers. Here's how:

We had to open accounts, lying to the customers that the account has "no fees" and put specifically designed waivers on the accounts so that the customer doesn't realize the scam (the maximum waiver you could use was for 1 year...)

Then, when the waiver expires months later, the customers have their guard down and they don't obsess with every line on their statements, they get hit by monthly fees that will overdraw the account (as most people keep in their checking account only enough money to cover their checks - that's why it's called a CHECKING account). The overdraft fees will overdraw the account again and again and so will the checks you write believing that your account is still good....

I routinely had customers with hundreds of dollars in fees by the time they received their statement - we were specifically instructed to hit high school kids, college students and senior citizens.

Another trick we had to use is open a "Gold" checking account to senior citizens who would come in and ask for a savings account by using a high interest rate as a carot and not disclosing the fees (using the waivers as noted above). Problem is, that "Gold" checking account had a high-balance requirement and the poor people would be hit by unneccesary monthly fees a few months later...

And to add inslult to injury we even had telemarketing days and evenings when we were forced to make telemarketing calls (disguised as "service calls" so that the bank circumvents the do-not-call registry laws). Not only these were clearly marketing calls (as suggested by the program feeding us the leads!!!) but also we had to open a number of checking accounts over the phone (the daily and weekly targets were set by Fran again, the Regional Manager).

If only homeland security new how many checking accounts Citizens Bank routinely opens over the phone without proper identification or signatures... all the auditors have to do is go to any Bucks County branch towards the end of the day and ask for the signature cards of the checking accounts opened the SAME day to uncover the illegal practice (this way there is no time to mail the signature card and obtain backdated signatures....)

Stay away from Citizens Bank in PA! I quit several years ago and I am still haunted about the things we had to do...

I swear to god the customer service guy told me " we have the right to charge you any fees and there is nothing you can do about it".
Do not open an account with them, and if you did close it as soon as possible they will rip you off big time!

I've banked with citizens for years and their customer service and online banking has just gotten worse over the years. Their Online Bill Pay is the Worst!! Beware because they send out checks to most creditors and if the creditor accidentally receives the check early they may deposit it early and overdraw your account. Absolutely under no circumstance trust their online banking I don't know why they even offer it because its not accurate. They deposit most citizens checks that you send out in the middle of the night so they will post things to your account when your sleeping. If you make an error you don't have enough time to transfer money into your account and correct it before getting charged. I swear they do it this way on purpose just to charge people all those 39.99 overdraft fees. And if you call customer service they don't give a **** unless its a bank error.
