Back when I was a teen my father obtained for me an account with DCU.
In case you didn't know, DCU was the Credit Union for Digital Equipment Corporation, based in Maynard Mass. A big and great computer company which went belly-up due to poor planning and prediction by management.

The Credit Union of DEC., "DCU" loved by the employees decided to continue on.

For years they flourished as a local CU with several branches. Members always felt welcomed and friendly staff gave superior service.

Several years ago, DCU began an expansion which spelled the beginning of the end.

They had several great features which put them head and shoulders above most any other credit union and every bank.

One feature, allowed a member to have complete access to their checking, savings and credit cards on one screen. They still have this but the cherry on the cake was that a member could transfer money into and out of their credit card account with no fees. That's right! no cash advance fees!

Another, allowed a member with an account a year or more older to have immediate access to up to 1000.00 from any ATM deposit. For example, If one were to deposit a 1000.00 personal check into their ATM they would have access to the 1000.00 immediately.

Another, allowed one to cash any payroll or corporate check up to 4000.00 on the spot. You could walk out with 4000.00 cash. This was for members with a year or more membership.

Their fees were nominal. 15$ for over limit and unsufficient funds.

All of the above are gone without a trace. They have become fee hungry and rather unfriendly. They give canned responses on phone calls and are as greedy as the big banks.

DCU used to credit up to 7 overlimits and unsufficients during the course of a year. Many times going over that amount. Now they adopt BofAs polices of one per life. LOL Well really, one per birthday if your lucky.

I had an epiphany the other day. Why am I still banking here? Citizens and Bank of America are right around the corner from me.
DCU is a drive to the next town. A good 15 minute drive!

DCU doesn't offer anything better than the fee hungry giants anymore.
