Dimensional Fund Advisors
Based in Santa Monica, Calif., Dimensional Fund Advisors (DFA) puts a lot of brain power into their investing. Based on economic theory and efficient capital markets, DFA has built up more than $150 billion in assets under management in just a quarter-century of operations. The company keeps a coterie of academics as advisors in order to gather ideas and bounce off ideas. DFA offers broker-sold mutual funds and separately managed accounts as well as 529 college plan options and institutional services. As with American Funds, you can't buy DFA funds without a broker.
