I soo agree with everyone. They have made so much money off of me from overdraft fees. I don't mind being charged a set amount under $20 for every o/d transaction, but they have charged me various amounts from $8-178. I think they've made more than $1000 already since I opened back in early 2000. I should have cancelled my account with them a long time ago but I just was stubborn to and now the temptation to do it is bigger. When I spoke to customer service each time they couldn't help me. They say they only waive 1 od fee once a year. The agent had the audacity to tell me that they feel for me too when I get frustrated. Yeah right! There must be a way that we can all file a lawsuit to have 5/3 bank refund most fees and stop them from charging these ridiculous amounts. Let me know if there is a possibility or if I can somehow get back some of my od fees.

I absolutely think that 5/3rd has the worst customer service. I've banked with them for over 10 years now and have never felt uncomfortable doing business with them. I too made a small error on the checking account. Overdrawing $13 dollars and was charged with over $300 in overdraft fee's. I will never do business with 5/3rd ever again. I'm closing my account immediately after my direct deposits are complete. Fee's of that expressiveness should never be allowed. WARNING Do not open a 5/3rd bank account unless your desperate.
Rip off!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok so for the last 50 years I have been a good person, I have a handgun for my protection. But never imagined I would need it to protect me against my bank. The people are thief's plain and simple. I over drafted my account by $1.02 to date I have racked up an amazing $600 if overdraft fees. Today I was charged another $48 even though my account was supposed to be frozen during their investigation. ********!!!! Alex Kerr claimed to be checking into it, but did nothing. He had the balls to sit with his cocky attitude while another employee tried to help. I don't care how long it takes I will not be robbed by these crooks. And if it comes down to it, I will protect myself and my money with all necessary force.
I have had a joint checking account, savings, and single checking account with this bank for about hm... 4 years?
Recently, due to a mistake on their part, I overdrafted by $9.06 and since then have been charged so much overdraft fees that it is now at over $600 in the negative! Reminder, I put in over $300 and spend less then $200 but because of their mistake they expect me to pay $600! NO WAY!
I go in to talk to the bank manager (that I had called and made an appointment with the day before) and the girl at the front says the bank manager isn't there. I ask when he will be back. Don't know was all I got.
I ask for a card, number, anything. He doesn't have a card, no exntension no phone number. BS!!! NEVER EVER TRUST THIS BANK WITH ANYTHING AT ALL EVER!!!
We're a small merchant and 5/3 processes our charge cards. Recently we had three overseas sales and we took absolutely every precaution on the charge card transactions. 5/3 approved all of the sales as did Visa International, the cards issuing bank, as well as the 5/3 Fraud Department. Then the customer tried to scam the bank and, even though we provided an absolutely perfect paper trail, 5/3 took over $10,000 from our account without warning! In our minds, this is wire fraud on the part of 5/3 as they in effect suckered us along with their approvals! We are proceeding on those grounds of fraud by 5/3 and will seek redress! Merchants beware of 5/3's approval process!!!
I have an automated payment arranged between my checking and 5/3 MC debit/credit card account. Somehow, they decided that my payment was late, so they gave me a finance charge that was not quite double the original payment due. I found out about it from a compterized message call from 5/3, and arranged for a transfer payment during that call. The next day, I received a letter from them indicating that they lowered my credit limit on the account, AND notified the credit bureau. The previous phone call/message indicated that they might notify the credit bureau. Right! I went online and transferred more than what was required toward that account. Here it is Tuesday morning, and they still can not get the transactions straightened out, especially the phoned-in transfer.
Now it's affecting my credit rating, too? An e-mail message indicated that I could always cancel my debit /credit card. I'm working on more than that!
I had an auto-debit to an online social membership that was supposed to be cancelled, which also contributed to the problem, but that's another story.
These people suck! A higher rate of attention??? No--a higher rate of idiots!
A horrible experience with a horrible bank. I opened a free checking account with them and closed it since I didn't need an account with this bank anymore. To this day, I am getting a huge number of calls from the collection agency about a payment that had been processed after the account had been closed. I have nothing against this incident since it seems sensible. What I have a problem with is, I have sent a check to the branch I opened an account with, with the amount that I owe, and the collection agency is still on my tail about that amount. I even received a call from that branch saying that they have received the check. I am getting really irritated by fifth-third. How irresponsible of them to neglect their former customer. Sometimes I doubt that the people employed at fifth-third are qualified professionals. If this continues, I hope they realize how easy it is for a bank to go bankrupt.
We have an auto loan with Fifth Third bank. Since the loan's inception it has been nothing but a problem. We were supposed to be financed through GMAC at 8% interest and the dealership processed the loan through 5/3 instead. The first communication we got from them was a letter saying the vehicle wasn't worth the loan amount and they weren't accepting it. We called them and they said that the letter was incorrect and the loan was accepted. It was processed at the wrong interest rate and that supposedly was corrected but never was. The payment book didn't come for two months after the loan was processed; we had to call and ask for it from them. The first two payments were never applied to the loan because of the lack of a payment book and were termed delinquent; that got resolved. It gets better. We go to the bank and they agree we should get the interest rate adjustment; oh, sorry, no can do but we sure can set your payment up for automatic withdrawal. No, thanks. They send us out a letter saying the car was not insured; it was and we sent them the proof. In the meantime 5/3 insured it and tacked another 40.00 a month on to the payment without explaining why and were able to send out a new payment book that time with no trouble. If you make a payment at the branch..good luck with them posting it and showing it as received on time and when you tell them you made it at the branch they tell you it needs to be in OHIO on the due date...is the branch not a part of your institution??? It gets even better...they send a repossesor to the house and he says the loan is delinquent and we have been notified by phone and letter (not really) and they take the car..no notice, no nothing and we let it go; we don't fight the guy (who thanks us and tells us someone pulled a knife on him before when he was picking up a car so he really appreciates us being so cooperative) and we are so embarassed that this happened we'd like to fall into a hole. We pay to get it back; 600.00 in fees, 1900.00 total.....funny; the statement they can only mail to you shows 11 payments made from 2/08 to 2/09...sounds like one payment behind to me. We try to make arrangements to get it back..they can't find it....CAN'T FIND IT! Wait ..wait...today we get a letter (6 letters actually in one day) stating as of 2/27 the loan will be delinquent and subject to reposession..they already HAVE the car, they already HAVE the amount they claimed was delinquent which they would only accept in cash or credit card payment, they subsequently sent out a statement with the deflinquency letter showing it wasn't paid to them although it was along with an additional payment through March, they have the 600.00 reposession fee, they've sent letters after they've already taken the car saying the loan is in default and they're going to take it if we don't respond in a certain period of time, their employees won't give out their names; they are rude and arrogant and they will make an appointment for us to retrieve the car and they can't FIND THE CAR!
their think tanks or soft ware minipulations are so obviously aimed at stealing as much money from their customers as possible. it's almost as if they hover above you ready to pounce on the money you have entrusted them with. a deposited pay check held up so that checks going thru are not paid, creating a chain of overdrafts that basically destroy a person financially is unacseptable and grounds for devorce from this dispicable financial institution. terry in cincinnati
I have an auto loan through Fifth Third, and I have to say that I have never seen a group of people so unhappy to get money from me on a monthly basis.
They demand up to 10 minutes of verification of who I am, and why I am calling them, on every call to their 800 #, despite me having account numbers, and just wanting to make a payment.
Then, they charge an extra 20$ to pay on the phone with a check, every month. Yet they have no option to use a bank card, credit card or any other form of payment. Also, you can not access this information online, or pay online.
They have on two occasions, "lost" my payment. They deducted it from my account, but applied it to a "unknown" inactive account, then tried to charge me late fees for not paying my bill on time. Then tell me that I can set up automatic payment from my checking, yet still pay the fees. (As if I will fall for that.)
I have had to call on several occasions to make payments, and when upset with the level of service their call center provides, asked for a manager, and have been hung up on by their associates.
Overall, never been more of a pain in my ass to give someone money.
