I encourage any and all minorities that bank with Fifth Third to find another bank. Fifth Third as well as BB&T do not and will not hire minorities. I have applied for tremendous amounts of various job opportunities with Fifth Third, I am a minoirity but very professional and I have my Bachelors degree in Financial Accounting and have had five years experience in the banking industry. I have applied for jobs in Teller and other positions that I am well qualified for. When I apply for positions with this bank all I ever recieve are emails stating that they have chosen for a more qualified candadiate. Also the city in which I reside I went to every Fifth Third bank within the county and there were no minorities. Fifth Third needs to be boycotted and I will be writing the EEOC and some Civil Rights Activist to see if I can't get some results. It is time for people to start speaking out about discrimination! Thanks to all who has taken the time to read my review.

These reviews are not a surprise to me. They are only about what they can take from you no matter the circumstances. I worked for 5/3 Bank and My Only Son was killed in a car wreck on 12/15 just before Christmas. I didn't care if I lived for months let along how to correctly perform a bank transaction, I was afraid I would mess up accounts and upset customers & get fired.(Rightful so people get upset if you mess up their money). I learned in April when the doctor would no longer see me (due to no insurance) that I was terminated 3/11. they didnt even bother to speak to me first.. I was out on short term disability and that was my only income which was taken away also..I was never late nor missed a day. I had only been there a few months, but had been praised over and over for my sales and customer services skills..

Adding my voice - worst bank ever.
Fee traps - legitimate deposits on indefinite hold - unauthorized deductions - customer harassment. So bad in so many ways.
Truly awful bank.

Worst bank I have ever dealt with. They are clueless on how to provide service to small businesses, and dealing with them between 2004 thru June 2009 has been one huge pain in the a**!
The specifics for my ratings starts in 2004, when they were supposed to lend our family run small business money for equipment through the SBA 7(a) program. They funded the equipment purchases, but they lied about the SBA loan being approved. Several years and several attempts by our company's CPA to get information about the loan passed by before they removed our loan officer and assigned a new officer. Between 2004 and 2007, they refinanced our loan several times and finally fessed up they don't have any SBA paperwork regarding our company in the summer of 2007. All I know is that's just plain sloppy and totally incompetent idiots are running the bank!
To cover the mess they created for themselves, they began a system wide push to call in loans they made to many small businesses throughout. In our case, our jerk officer told us that according to the ratios we will be out of business within six months! That was summer of 2007 and we are still here and going strong. They put our company into their Special Assets divsion for collection, even though we have never defaulted any payments in our corporate history, and they sent us legal notices indicating that we will have to pay back our loan or they will move in and take all company and personal pledged assets.
We spent well over a year in dealing with their legal notices and finally finished our refinancing through a "business friendly bank", and are in better hands now since our loan is finally through the SBA 7(a) loan mechanism...something Fifth Third should have ensured in the first place.
Upon reflection one thing is very clear, everytime they refinanced our loan, huge fees were attached so it is very evident that they thrive on their absurd fee structure. I strongly believe that our loan fiasco was a mechanism to generate profits for the bank...not to mention bonuses for the officer(s) in charge of our account.
In summary, having survived the financial crisis exacerbated by banks like Fifth Third, I have very little sympathy for any of them. Through no fault of our own and despite our impeccable payment history, Fifth Third wreaked a lot of tension and stress on my family, my children, and our employees.
I don't recommend anyone going to Fifth Third for any reason whatsoever, and if you are inclined to do so, look at their absurd fee structures very closely. They charge absurd amounts for services that other well run banks charge minimal or nothing at all! Since I have to assign at least one star, I did, but that's one star too many for this sh*thole of a bank!

I thought the new administration was going to do something about these unethical banking practices. All the above statements are true. If an account holder finally untangles the banking rules pertaining to their account, 5/3 handily changes them so that the bank prospers off the unwitting customer. My son is barely in college; 5/3 pursued him to apply for a student credit card, and they have done nothing but rob him. He has paid hundreds in overdraft fees, and hundreds in credit card fees. I was once overdrawn 2 cents and they sent the check back, charged me almost 40 dollars, and had the audacity to imply the bank was not in the business of loaning money to checking account customers to cover their overdrafts. I am sure this bank is run by gangsters.

Actually one star is still too good of a review for this bank. I've absolutely had it with this bank constantly shifting things around so they can rob me blind on fees. When I went to them to open an account I was told "deposits always go in before debits." what a crock!!! Example....put in a cash deposit this weekend of $400.00. Went shopping almost 8 hours later. Checked the internet and money was there. Purchased what I needed and rechecked bank all weekend. Wake up this a.m. and check only to find I am now nearly $700.00 in the negative because the debits were posted before the deposit. I went in to speak to a personal banker and/or bank manager and was told I needed to relearn how to keep a checkbook and almost $200.00 more in fees were hitting my account over the next 24 hours. I left the bank with tears rolling down my face and had to sit in my car for over 10 minutes to try to get control. I have checks out there that are still going to post and I have two things that get directly deposited into that horrid bank. The banker didn't care that I had my deposit receipt or shopping receipts all showing time and to be told by this snot that I need to relearn how to keep a checkbook was such an insult (btw...I brought my checkbook with to show him MY book keeping, which he didn't even glance at). I'm still so hurt and angry I'm shaking. I just don't know what to do. I'm never going to be able to pay off these fees and I certainly don't want my direct deposits, which pay my rent, to get eaten alive by this bank! I don't know what to do at this point. Thank you for allowing me to vent with the rest of you and for listening. I don't understand why it's the little guy that they chose to steal from.
Horrible bank. Play shell games with deposits/checks. You can watch it online, they have no remorse, no guilt, no conscience. Deposited a check, tried to spend my own money and pay over 30.00 each for RED BOX $1 charges, $5 here and there on debit. because I spent over $100 that day. Seriously? Switched to automatic deposit. Didn't make a difference. Actually have more problems now, they know ahead what my moves are. It's all in my best interest though, these services they are providing me. We're talking millions a year for these "services". Ripped me off on online bill pay too. 8 weeks now, still hasn't shown at other end, but I was surely debited the amount instantly. Nobody responds when contested. They say they paid it, my MORTGAGE company says they didn't. I guess i'm supposed to just forget it? hire a lawyer? 5/3 is a terrible bank.

Fifth Third just changed their policies so if you are OD by less than $5.00 they don't charge you fees and you have 3 days to get it positive before they do charge the fees. You have to give them some credit for catching up with the times.

I used to work for them and I know how they run and take care of things. They don't care for the people who bank with them. They only care for the money which they bring into the bank. They take so bad care of the people who don't make much money and will bend over back wards for the big Guys!! Lets face it they only want to work with the people have largest deposit not the hard working. They even do it that for their mortgages the larger the amount of the mortgage loan the faster it gets done and the better care they get. They would be so slow for the lower income homes if that some one was trying to buy a home. They would make it so hard for them to get the loan. They didn't want to help them and waste their time on something small which wouldn't make them any monye. Oh, if you were not white and lets say you something different they would ask for so many extras things from you. It was very sad thing to watch how they work. They did it to all areas of their banking. They will say they care but they don't. Behind close doors it was a different story. Just lets say if it was big dollar amount of mortgage they will do anything to get the loan done and I am mean anything......... Maybe their poor service to the people who banks with them and what they have done in the past has put them in hot water now. I do hope a good bank will buy them out and bring local good and honest workers that care about people and not just seeing numbers $$$$$$ signs!
