This bank is SO horrible!!! In feb/march 2009, something happened where it overdrew my account, they admitted it was their fault and never should have happened BUT they made me sign a paper that said i would NEVER ask for fees to be taken off my account ever again! Even though they admitted it was their fault! Then the guy said ill give you 30 days free of this protection for your account, i got an email from the protection company that said "to activate the account go to this website, put in this code, blalhlbah, and ENROLL in the protection to activate the account" Well i didnt feel like spending another 9 bucks on protection that would probably never help me, so i never went to that site! I never typed in their code, i never ENROLLED in the program. But they felt the need to charge me every month! I didnt notice, even on my statements, or on phone call transactions this charge was going on. I got fired in May was on a tight budget and watched my account like a hawk and still nothing flagged up about this charge, it wasnt till june when i absolutely had NO money in the account that i noticed the charge, and went negative 93 bucks from a 9 dollar charge!!! I went in explaining that i received the email, but didnt bring a copy because i didnt have a printer at the time, and she said i was a liar! And there was nothing they could do even if they wanted to because i signed that paper! My boyfriend and I BOTH experienced this and many other problems in our year and a half banking experience there. They charged me some 44 overdraft fee on top of the charge, on top of a 33 fee, on top of 8 bucks a day!!! All over 9 bucks! If i honestly knew they were taking money out i would have found 10 bucks to stick in there and canceled it months ago!

Bad bad bad!

They did the same thing to me, I added my wife to my account, when asked for this ID alert we said we didn't want it but, the manager asked my wife to sign some papers to put her on my account and one of those he slipped in the ID alert form. I had done all my accounting and transfered from our savings account to checking to cover all our bills and on Monday went in to deposit to our savings to put back to money I used Friday, We only had $4.35 in our savings but ,when the $9.00 charge hit Monday morning from our savings we when OD on savings and they charged me $68.00 on Tuesday. I went in to my branch where the new manager told me they would give us back $8.00 since I made a cash deposit on Monday but the $60.00 there was nothing she could do.5/3 is a scammers bank

Normally their ok, but I just have a huge fee issue right now.

Fifth Third has totally and completely wronged me :(

I have accounts at four other banks so I shouldn't have a problem moving on but damn I'm angry.

I had issued a check for $244.00 and had a available balance of $274.00, no problem right? Wrong! Fifth Third bank processed pending transactions that apparently caused a $2.87 overdraft after paying the $244.00 check, What Fifth Third then did was to charge back all the pending transactions incurring over $380.00 in overdraft fees then Fifth Third returned the check for $244.00 and credited my account for $244.00 then paid the pending transactions and charge me an additional $35.00 plus 6 days at $8.00 for a grand total of $423.00 all in one day. They explained this to me by saying the pending transactions were 6 days old and then they advised me to pay all my bills in cash and to only use cash for several days while my account cleared. 2 days later after paying all this Fifth Third charged me $360.00 for the same overdraft which I was able to beg a bank manager to waive. Oh, my wife, kids and I got to eat P&B sandwiches for breakfast lunch and dinner for as week. Thanks Fifth Third ! you're the greatest!

These bank charges are outrageous!!! A $37 overdraft charge. On top of that, the way they work it is scandalous.

Let's say you have $100 dollars in your account at 9:00 am on Monday morning.

At 11:00 am a charge for $10 dollars comes through and your new balance should be $90.

At 1:00 pm on the same day, you have a charge go through for $91. This $91 dollar charge overdrafts your account by $1. You will receive $74 in fees.

You will be charged $37 for the $10 and $37 for the $91 even though the $10 charge was covered in full by money in your account..

Their policy is that "the smaller amounts are taken out first to insure they can give you as many $37 fees as they possibly can. They are nothing buy crooks! Call before you open an account and see if this is not their policy. You will find I am telling you the truth.

What they do here is,
1- $10.00 PENDING
2- $91.00 OVERDRAFT ! but wait!
3- the $91.00 is paid out of your account AND that is what causes the overdraft incurring the $37.00 OD fee PLUS $8.00 for the first day = $45.00
4- The $10.00 PENDING is now overdraft because the $91.00 has been paid (or so it seems)
5- $37.00 fee item #2 for a total of $82.00
6- you account gets credited back the $91.00 and subsequently the OD fees are taken from that. But, you still have $18.00 right? Wrong, the service fee of $6.00 hits taking that down to $12.00 so you still have enough to cover the first $10.00 right? wrong!
7- The following day the $8.00 daily assement for OD on $91.00 OD check plus $37.00 plus $10.00 plus $37.00 are all charged back to your account for a grand daily total of $92.00 leaving you now -$74.00 balance AND still owing the first $10.00 and the $91.00 so on the third day, all these charges hit and you now will owe $267.00

I am a small business owner who had my business and personal accounts with 5/3 bank. I banked there for five years without incident. About a year ago 5/3 started to put holds on deposits. Most checks that I deposit are 5k-20k, and usually they are availabe the next day due to my long relationship with the bank. As a small business owner, I write many checks, so you can imagine what happens when a deposit is delayed-everything bounces. The banker at my branch was able to refund only 20% as this is bank policy. I went up the food chain to no avail. I continued to bank with 5/3 (shame on me), and over a one year period they i accumulated approx. $4200 in fees. I always had the money to cover the checks. The fees resulted from delayed deposits. I am taking them to small claims court in an attempt to recover MY money. Unfortunately, this seems to be industry wide as my new bank is starting to work around the edges of my accounts. Something has to be done industywide. This is theft-plain and simple.

Fifth Third Bank is retarded. I have never dealt with so many stupid people in such a short amount of time. I have a auto loan with them, and it has been nothing less of inconvenient and aggravating. Their Customer Service is terrible, and the people are very un-friendly. I highly recommend no one else use thier service, and hope that someone reads this and learns something.

For any questions about my experiences please feel free to email me at: ecotec22l@hotmail.com

I HAVE BANKED WITH 5/3 FOR 9 YEARS AND I HAVE HAD A FEW ISSUES IN THE PAST. IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS I HAVE HAD HORRIBLE EXPERIENCES!!! FIRST, THEIR ATM MACHINE DIDN'T GIVE ME THE MONEY I WITHDREW. IT TOOK MY CARD SEVERAL MINUTES TO SPIT OUT OF THE MACHINE. I DROVE TO THE OTHER ATM AND TOOK MONEY AND THEN WENT INSIDE TO TELL THE TELLER WHAT HAD HAPPENED. SHE TOLD US THAT ATM MACHINE DOES THAT A LOT AND TO SEE IF THE MONEY POSTS TO MY ACCOUNT BECAUSE IT SHOULD CORRECT ITSELF OVERNIGHT. IT DIDNT CORRECT ITSELF SO I HAD TO GO IN A FILL OUT A DISPUTE. I SPOKE WITH THE SAME MANAGER AND SHE SAID IT WAS NO PROBLEM TO FILL OUT THE DISPUTE AND I WOULD GET MY MONEY BACK. 3 WEEKS LATER I GOT A DENIAL LETTER SAYING THEY WERE NOT RETURNING MY MONEY. 3 MONTHS LATER I HAVE AN UNAUTHORIZED CHARGE FOR 170.00 I DISPUTED IT AND THEY TELLER TOLD ME TO FILL OUT A DISPUTE IT WAS AN EASY PROCESS AND MY MONEY WOULD BE RETURENED. AGAIN IT TOOK ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE THEY SENT ME A LETTER STATAING THEY WOULD NOT REFUND MY MONEY BECAYSE I HAD NOTHING IN WRITING SAYING I DIDN'T AUTHORIZE THE CHARGE...MEANING I HAD NO WRITTEN PROOF (EVEN THOUGH I SENT A 1 PAGE LETTER STATING WHAT HAPPENED!!) AFTER THAT MY SISTER NEEDED PROOF OF INCOME THAT I HAD BEEN PAYING HER FOR CHILDCARE. SINCE MY PRINTER WAS OUT OF INK WE WENT TO 5/3 WHERE THEY PRINTED 3 SHEETS OF PAPER THAT TOOK ABOUT 2 MIN. THEY CHARGED ME 15.00 WITHOUT EVEN TELLING ME. THIS IS A HORRIBLE BANK. I CLOSED ALL MY ACCOUNTS WHICH I SHOULD HAVE DONE A LONG TIME AGO AFTER HEARING OTHER ISSUES CUSTOMERS HAD!!

I have so much issue with them about cheating customers off their money. I posted a month back about their outrageous overdraft fees. They have made over a thousand dollars on od fee already from me. Recently, I got a wire transfer for a refund from another bank and 5/3 charges me $15 for it. When people and the economy is down, they make you suffer more. Can we all come together to legally sue 53 bank to get back all or some of the charges they have charged us? Someone need to get the ball rolling. Let me know when it happens.

It looks like you think everything should be free. Do you ***** when you speed and get a speeding ticket. Learn to read the fine print or you will always blame others or your mistakes!

Don't respond here if you can't give positive feedback (mea)! I didn't say I want it for free but you for one should know that banks like most business entity find ways to manipulate the consumers' pockets. What speeding ticket? Never got one.

I absolutely think that 5/3rd has the worst customer service. I've banked with them for over 10 years now and have never felt uncomfortable doing business with them. I too made a small error on the checking account. Overdrawing $13 dollars and was charged with over $300 in overdraft fee's. I will never do business with 5/3rd ever again. I'm closing my account immediately after my direct deposits are complete. Fee's of that expressiveness should never be allowed. WARNING Do not open a 5/3rd bank account unless your desperate.

Rip off!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok so for the last 50 years I have been a good person, I have a handgun for my protection. But never imagined I would need it to protect me against my bank. The people are thief's plain and simple. I over drafted my account by $1.02 to date I have racked up an amazing $600 if overdraft fees. Today I was charged another $48 even though my account was supposed to be frozen during their investigation. ********!!!! Alex Kerr claimed to be checking into it, but did nothing. He had the balls to sit with his cocky attitude while another employee tried to help. I don't care how long it takes I will not be robbed by these crooks. And if it comes down to it, I will protect myself and my money with all necessary force.
