First Market Bank
The only bank in America with a joint ownership arrangement between a bank and a supermarket, First Market Bank opened its doors in late 1997 and now has 37 branches. 1998 brought the bank their first freestanding location, the introduction of their Dealer Finance, Commercial and Private Banking Divisions, four new in-store locations and a venture into the Williamsburg Market. First Market Bank celebrated their billion dollar milestone in the fall of 2002, just less than six years after their inception, in 2005 accomplished their goal of bringing the ownership and operations of First Market Bank to Richmond, and in 2007 expanded into the Roanoke market. First Market Bank is a federal stock-chartered thrift owned and controlled by Ukrop's Super Markets Inc and the Markel Corporation.
