This rating is only for their customer service at 1-800-975-HSBC. It seems some of the CSR's are not knowledgeable and professional enough.
However, my experience tells that the CSR's at 1-888-404-4050 (HSBC Direct Customer Service) are generally more helpful in average.

An HSBC savings account has always been a great place to keep my extra money. The interest rate is consistently one of the highest out there and the ability to transfer money into it from multiple accounts makes it very easy to save. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a safe and reliable place to keep their extra money.

I have HSBC online saving account and checking account for about 4 years. Extremely love the online saving account because it offers good rate. I was offered 3% on HSBC saving account when I can only get 2.25% for a 9 month at BOA. The only compliant I have is they do not have many retail store and ATM in California.

I have been with HSBC about 4 years, I also have other banks that I deal with as well. In comparison, HSBC's customer service through the few branchs in Rochester are very rude. The lines are long because they're slow. The time they clear my pay check takes up to 3 business days, which they doesn't even show online as a deposit until it clears. I have since switched to M&T.

A year and half ago I was looking for a bank to stash my Emergency cash into. After looking for a few weeks I found out about HSBC. Since I’ve been a customer I’ve been very satisfied with their service. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a back up savings account!

I consider this the best in the sector. I have an account with this bank and I dont have to really visit the branch. All I do is internet banking and use ATM service to do transactions and request services.
This is so convenient. I dont have to waste time waiting in queue for a long time.
The best that impresses me is that help I get from the staff of HSBC. They are too professional and deals our request with care and respect.
I dont remember if I had any issue with the bank in history.
I rate this bank the best in the world.

I am an HSBC Direct customer. I am very satisfied with their product and service thus far. While their online interface is not necessarily the best, it is efficient. I use the online savings account which currently pays about 3% apy, which is much higher than you'll find in most places with interest rates approaching 0%. I also like that there is no minimum balance. The bank to bank transfers are no-fee and conducted efficiently. I would recommend HSBC to anyone.
Overall a pretty good bank with a lot of locations in NYC. I find their customer service far better at the branch compared to the people I speak with on the phone. Also be aware that if you are an HSBC direct customer that you get very limited customer service assistance in a branch with this product. But again, I am quite comfortable recommending HSBC to a friend worry free.
