Key bank have the most backwards policies, and least helpful people I've ever talked to. If I could give less than one star, I would.

I have a loan from Key that I've paid down half, never missed a payment - great payment history. I called them to have my payments temporarily lowered due to hardship - laid off my job, and the state will not give me UI due to a technicality. Key Bank say I do not qualify for a payment reduction - get this - because I don't have a job in which I make 3 times the amount of my current loan payment.

Uh...so, wait...I DO qualify to make a higher payment amount, but I DON'T qualify for payment reduction - because I am unemployed? I have to be making 3x the amount of my current loan payment to qualify for a payment reduction? Why the hell would I need a payment reduction if I had a job? Do you know your elbow from your *******?

I've sent emails, spent hours on the phone, talked to their loan department three times, to their collections department - everywhere and everyone I talk to, talks in circles, and all the same result: **** you if you have a financial hardship.

Key Bank is pure evil.

We obtained an educational loan through key bank. Every month we pay the amount. Last year, the amount jumped up $300 and changed dates from the middle of the month to the beginning of the month and we were given NO notification that this would be happening. Every month they call my husband to ask about payment. This has been going on for a year now. Every month he requests a payment history, including the date the loan amount and payment day was changed. Every month the condescending customer service people give him the run around and we never get the requested information. Requests to speak w/ a supervisor always end in "they are unavailable". These people are rude, irritating, harassing and down right disrespectful to the people who essentially pay their paycheck. Without our money, they would not have a job. They have even gone so far as to look up my personal cell phone and work number and call me. I will be calling the consumer advocacy in my state this week. I may also consider filing harassment charges as this is getting out of control

I guess it's good to know I'm not the only person KeyBank is trying to nickle and dime into poverty. I got a 4.9% car loan from Key a few years ago, always paid on time or early, once my balance was paid down they effectively raised the interest to over 7% by charging me fees on the account that I was required to have in order to have the loan. Their deposit posting practices are shady at best, and they will never work with you on fees resulting from deposits that they wait 2 or more days to post (they're using your money for 2-4 days and charging you for it). And the last straw, I ordered some basic checks, nothing special or custom, and was charged $45 for 1 box of plain checks. I never received the checks and cannot get a credit out of them. I'm wanting to close the account, but I can't get them to credit the $45 for the lost checks that should have cost $12 in the first place. This is the absolute worst bank I have ever dealt with.

This bank should be closed down. The authorities need to lock up the management staff for fraud in the first degree. I wish i had never seen this bank in my quest for a good bank. All was well up until a couple months ago when they shut off my atm card while they were holding my paycheck and bouncing checks. Top it off i have direct deposit and when i contacted them they acted like i was the criminal and refused to remove any of the $1000 incuured in the last 15 days for overdrafts that would of cleared if they didn't hold every deposit. It would always be deposited the day after all of the overdrafts. Hummph? go figure... They are C**Ksuckers... Pardon the french...

Well, after reading some of these reviews pertaining to Key Bank, I get the feeling my son isn't the only person thats been taken advantage of. Several weeks ago, we contacted the bank to close his checking account. It only has $13.00 and had been dormant for awhile. He recieved a letter indicating he would be assessed a $5 fee in regards to the inactive account. He was assured the acount would be closed and a check mailed to him. He works out of the state, so he was assured that when I called, I would be able to speak on his behalf. ( We have had SEVERAL occassions where we had to contact Key Bank in regards to fees) Well, two weeks later, he gets another letter, advising of a $5 fee because of inactivity. I contacted the office, I tried to speak to the specialist, but she would not discuss this with me (even though we had been assured that I would be able to call on my sons behalf) So, I asked to speak with a manger, she also would not talk to me. She advised me I was not on the account, and it is not indicated as such. Well, I'll tell you what, this isn't the first time this bank has lied and manipulated my son. The other day, guess what, another letter, indicating a fee of $5 was assessed, again..keep in mind, this is a CLOSED account. I'm unable to get in touch with my son in regards to this. This bank is dishonest, poor customer service (and I worked in banking for 11 yrs) they are working on a system that allows them to be thieves. ANYONE that ask me about Keybank, I advise them very strongly, how they incure fees ( very sneaky) how they do not notate there accounts accurately or if at all. I'm thinking about hiring a lawyer, not for the $13.00, but for the fact of the matter, how they manuever their business. I gave them a rating of poor, they don't deserve a rating, but I guess it doesn't go any lower. I wonder if Bernie Madoff is connected with this institution. Maybe thats were the $50 billion went? I do not know if any of their CEO's read these blogs, but I would suggest they start paying attention!

This is a business not a charity. Be accountable for your finances. Seems as though most of these other responses are careless in their money managing. 47.25 to call the 800 number is incorrect. This bank charges .75 for more than 8 calls to the 800 number in a month. But does offer free online banking. By law the bank discloses at account opening all possible fees that can be charged to an account. Also disclosed is a funds availabilty disclosure. Perhaps some should accept responsibilty for their own errors rather than placing the blame on the others.

I have banked with KeyBank for four years and it has been generally okay until just the last couple months, I have noticed a change. They clearly have amped up the way they maniuplate our funds in order to maximize their ability to charge criminal fees. Just as we find getting by harder and harder, they are not our friend. Guess they now rely on these fees more and more as loan defaults defaults and other credit have increased. Now that we are all sufficiently addicted to using our debit cards for everything, we also pay our bills online and have our paychecks automatically deposted....they own us. I say "get out of KeyBank ASAP." Join your local credit union. They many toss you a bone if you go in and plead your case. With a look of pity in her eye, the bank personnel may credit you for one overdraft fee as she patronizingly explains how the system works. We can never prove our case. They are worse that the corner drug dealer, worse than the corner Payday loan shark. No, they are not our friend. They are not going to give the average person any slack during this tight economic turn. Their only goal is to squeeze us dry. They are not providing customer service. Economic rape is the only metaphor I can think of. Do not delay....get out of KeyBank.

Although the Bank claims that it operates in 13 states, there seems to be no connection among them. When I moved from Washington to Michigan, the Bank messed up my accounts and direct pays, and cost me a great deal of late fees and headaches.
