I had a horrible experience with Regions and am at a loss as to how to fix it. The way that they charge their overdraft fees is just absurd. I over drafted by $5.38 but due to the system knowing I was going to overdraft on the pending transaction it began charging overdraft fees as things in the pending file began to go to the cleared file. I took responsibility for the overdraft and saw one charge of $33, so I made a cash deposit thinking that was the end of it. I checked the account 2 days later and had $204 in overdraft fees!!! All of this over a $5.38 charge. Due to them knowing I was going to over draft in the end they charge the fee to the acct on the first item that clears, so that all the items after get charged a fee as well. By the time they got around to charging me for the last item, the one that was the actual overdraft I was being charged a higher rate for overdrafts that I began with. Called customer service, got nowhere, went to a branch and the manager told me I was "too emotional" to speak to him, and told me i was wrong. ... Someone please tell me how it is sane to charge a customer $204 in fees for a $5.38 charge??????
Regions rob customers of their hard earned money. They continue to let withdrawals even if there are no funds in the account so that they can make more money on overdraft fees. I paid over $300 in overdraft charges in just two days because they kept letting money come out that wasn't there.!! There has to be a limit to this, a restriction placed on banks as to how many withdrawals they can allow through or a maximum overdraft charge limit. In Canada we paid $25 a month whether we were overdrawn once or 10 times. It's robbery here in the US. I'll be switching from Regions this week.
Yes I agree that sometimes the user is the problem but in many cases so is the bank I know that I have had a problem with regions many times that was not my fault , but they did not ever appoligize for thier mistake they took the same chaeck out twice and then charged me for an overdraft , they showed the check number on the first withdrawal but it dissappeared on the second withdrawal but it was clearly printed on the bank statement. Why did this happen when they took the money the first time. the check should have been listed as pd. so this makes me suspisious > I truly hope you have better luck than I have had I am paying off my morgage and moving my money because I honestly dont feel they care what happens to us no matter whos fault it is >service is the only difference from one bank to another.
I BANK WITH THE REGIONS BANK IN THE PLAZA IN MCMINNVILLE TENN, WE HAVE DONE BUSINESS WITH THEM SINCE THEY WERE UNION PLANTERS .ABOUT 10 YEARS > I RECENTLY RECIEVED AN INVITATION TO PURCHASE MORGAGE INSURANCE FOR THE AMOUNT LEFT ON MY LOAN. THEY HAD GIVEN OUT MY LOAN INFO TO ANOTHER COMPANY WITH OUT EVEN NOTIFING ME OR ASKING MY PERMISSION. WHEN I CALLED THEY GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND AND LIED TO ME AT EVERY TURN. THIS BRANCH ALSO TOOK A DEPOSIT AND THEN TOOK THE SAME CHECK OUT TWICE AND THEN CHARGED ME AN OVERDRAFT FEE FOR THIER MISTAKE WHEN I SHOW THEM THE BANK STATEMENT WHICH TOTALLY PROVED TO THEM IT WAS THIER ERROR THEY REFUND THE MONEY AND REMOVED THE OVERDRAFT FEE. BUT THEY NEVER APOLOGIZED FOR THE PROBLEM BEWARE ANOTHER BIG DOG THAT DOES NOT KNOW WHO THEY WORK FOR i SAY WE LET THEM KNOW BECAUSE WE ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO ACTUALLY KNOWS WHERE THIER MONEY COMES FROM I CHALLENGE YOU MOVE AWAY FROM THE SNAKE DONT LET THEM HAVE THEIR WAY WITH YOU MONEY MOVE MOVE MOVE SINCERLY MAD IN MCMINNVILLE
BECOME A PART THE TEAM WHO GETS IT DONE . WE THE PEOPLE CAN MAKE THEM PAY TAKE OUR MONEY MAKE THEM NOTICE WHO WRITE THE CHECKS , WE CAN STAND TOGETHER AND GET THE ATTENTION OF THE BIG DOG...
GET IT DONE...
pat you are the dumb***** because what they said was the check was from a regions bank customer give to some one for pay on something they done for them and then they went to the regions bank to cash it and they wanted to charge them a $5 fee to cash there customer check so before you defend regions get the facts first pat
This bank continues to stink like a skunk. I used to have at least 4 to 5 bounce charges each month. The charges began to exceed my income. No matter how I tracked my spending it just seemed to get worse. It is almost as though they have a computer that calculates your next move. Not not true. A friend of mine works there and the employees recieve bonuses for every bounce charge they apply to an account. Can you believe that legal white collar theft. One in which the CEO's can hold their head high. HA HA Anyway since I left this bank I have had one bounced charge in six months. My spending habits have not changed nor has my family needs. I have not had to log into the internet to check my account to second guess the next chess move nor have I had to track penny by penny. What could be the difference could it be called simple down home honesty. I would suggest that you run not walk to your nearest locally owned banking and kick the big boys to the side, Its not worh the head ache.
OMG!! This is so true. I had the same experience. I thought I must be doing something wrong, until I made that fateful Saturday deposit and racked up $175 in overdraft fees. My deposit did not show up in my account until I called on Tuesday and all of the bank personnel acted as if I was at fault. I moved my direct deposit to a Walmart money card. If I don't have money I don't have money.
I agree Lynn that they seem to be one step ahead to take money from us. I looked in my account to make sure I had money to pay a bill. there was plenty so I paid the bill. then i get wacked with overdraft fees because the next day I look and they posted a $400 withdrawal after I paid the bill but it shows as being withdrawn before I paid the bill, which is bull. The money I needed was in their before the $400 transaction so I shouldn't be charged the $35 overdraft fee but I was. I hate banks in the USA.
It is a bank with many advantages. Yet one big problem is Saturday to Tuesday morning. They do not process from Saturday until Monday night at midnight. Many people have paid many dollars for this. Pending charges for 3 days is a way to give the bank many dollars. SchwabBank.com and ingdirect.com do not do this.
Your new to them now. You will joint the team of the dissatisfied in just a short ime
I have had three employees at three different branches now tell me that they set up my account with overdraft protection. Yet, I am still getting hit with fees (yes, there is MORE than enough in my savings account to cover the $1.50-$4.90 charges). They keep telling me, "The computer will not allow us to refund fees." So computers run the business? Not a single human being can control what these computers are doing????
I have spoken to three managers, all who keep passing me back to each other. The one person who apparently can help me is "on vacation for two weeks." Conveniently just enough time for them to say, "It is past the time frame in which we can refund your money."
Banking institutions are supposed to keep your money safe, but Regions has stolen over $100 from me.
I'm rerouting all my cash to a different bank and canceling this account as soon as I get my money back - if I ever do.
With the rise in popularity of debit cards has come a proliferation of overdraft fees charged when there is not enough money in the account to cover a purchase.
When debit cards were first introduced, a bank would decline a debit card purchase if there were insufficient funds in the account to which the card was linked. However, today, 77 percent of the nation’s largest banks automatically cover ATM and debit card overdrafts by providing “overdraft protection.” That is a line of credit extended to a debit card holder allowing them to make purchases exceeding their account balance — but with this so-called benefit comes a hefty fee.
It varies by bank, but the average is $27 per overdraft. So, if you exceeded your account balance by $3.00 when buying a cup of coffee and a donut, that breakfast would actually cost you $30.00! Overdraft fees are big business for banks and brought in a total of $27 billion in 2008.
Look for a bank whose debit card does not automatically offer overdraft protection or explicitly inform your bank that you do not want such protection by asking to “opt-out” of such a program. Doing so will ensure that you will be blocked from making purchases when you do not have enough money in your account.
For what I use Regions for, it is a great bank in Dickinson, TX. The employees are all very friendly and I have never had a customer service problem when I went into the bank or drive thru. They are always ready to accomodate requests and process applications, etc.
(I have had problems when I called a nationwide number. That customer service was a whole different ballgame.)
I don't know how we got so lucky to have such a great branch here.
Wont be long and you will join the team of unsatisfied customers. I am sure there is nothing special about you except maybe they pay your salary. And even then you will probably end up being a dissatisfied employee.
Do not bank with REGIONS BANK. They will STEAL your money.
I deliberately went to the bank and made a deposit on Saturday 8/8/09 to avoid overdraft fees. I went shopping after the deposit was made. I checked my account on Tuesday afternoon and was hit with overdraft fees to the tune of $175. First of all my deposit had not posted. The deposit posted Tuesday night. When I went to the bank to inquire about a refund of the overdraft fees. I was told the computer could not post my deposit on the weekend, but at the same time it could charge me overdraft fees on the weekend. I think we should file a class action suit. If someone puts together a class action suit please count me in.
HA- I was just told that it was against the patriot act to verify funds of a check over the phone!
I told the stupid customer service guy that if this was true, all other more reputable banks are still "breaking the law".

If you over spend on your own acct. is you the problem NOT the Bank... You slould be more responsible in managing your finances becasue the Bank only process transacctions that your originated. Blaming the Bank, Regions or any other bank, just show how irresponsible some people is. I am sure changing Banks will not make any difference because you are the problem.
