Lately transactions have started showing up days later online. Not pending, just not there.

With the increased use of debit cards, I bet many people are not writing down purchases in check registers. I've come to rely on the timeliness of transactions posting online, and I check regularly to ensure that I know my balance.

Now, random charges mysteriously aren't there until days later.

I'm sure this isn't an attempt to recoup some lost fee revenue in light of much needed consumer protection regulations coming up in the near future. Even though, I'm off to a credit union.

Reid Phifer Farms

My name is Nelson Reid Phifer; I am 60 years old and have been a row crop and a poultry farmer for 40+ years. I have been a customer of SunTrust Bank, which was formerly Central Carolina Bank, and Security Bank, since 1964. I have never had a blemish on my credit and have maintained a superior credit score even as a farmer in some extremely lean years. I am thoroughly disgusted with the current situation that SunTrust has caused to lower my credit score.

I have written and called to every department available to me in both the bank and to all the banking regulators. I am appealing directly to the public to get an opinion on my plight in the banking bureaucracy.

As a farmer and friend I co-signed the above referenced account for a Hispanic gentleman that works for me since his English is limited. He has always been prompt in making payments. This late payment was due to a breakdown of communications, I was not contacted until the loan was 30 days past due. Mr. Lopez had bundled his phone package with a different provider which required a phone number change, the bank could not reach him and the bank which has access to all of my telephone numbers made no attempt to contact me until the account was already in late status by six days which was criteria for the negative credit reporting. I was told by Suntrust employees that the bank only had to contact the primary borrower, which is incorrect according to their own “Unsecured Credit Line Agreement and Disclosure”. In this document we as the borrower, are equal co-owners of this loan with the terminology such as “you”, “your”, “Applicant” ‘means each and every person who signed the contract’”. Since it was my credit score affected by this problem, it was imperative that I also be contacted. Immediately upon learning of this problem, I went to my local bank and took care of the problem in less than one hour. I feel that this entire transaction has been a major breakdown of communication, which has damaged my credit score. Since I am a farmer it is extremely important for me to keep my credit score high and this misunderstanding is the only blemish I have had in 60 years. This problem has consumed days and months of my time that is needed to do my job (which is feeding the world) instead of fight the bureaucracy of banking.

At this point, having contacted all resources available to me to no avail, I am convinced that this has become a racial problem since the gentleman that I co-signed for was Hispanic. I am appealing directly to the public to get your opinion on my plight in the banking bureaucracy.

I never had problem with SunTrust, I have direct deposit with them and they deposit my paycheck every thursday morning, and I go out to spend the money without overdraft fee's, I always make sure there is money in the bank before I spend anything. I believe the customer service has always been helpful with me, and they make my transaction smooth as possible, but you all should know that the economy is down and SunTrust is just trying to make sure there isn't anyone trying to mess with their business, other word if you don't have money in your bank don't spend what you don't have.

I to wish there was a rating WORSE than VERY POOR!. I have banked with a few banks in my time and generally do not have an issue. I recently relocated and opted to find a bank that was within my general area Suntrust (BIG MISTAKE!)

As an overall summarization there whole intent is to charge you any way they can with NSF Fees.

There was a situation where my small business merchant account was suppose to deposit 200.00 into my Suntrust account... I made the mistake of writing a check based on this premis.

The account had roughly 300.00 in it and several small pending transactions all 5 totalling no more than 140.00. You could see these charges were pending 4:00am . Now, I knew I had written a check for 229.00 that had not cleared the bank yet and HOPED it would not come until the following day.

At any rate had it not I figured I would be liable for that particular penalty fee. NOPE! They first put that check through (which clearly came later in the day) then proceeded to accept the other 4 charges ALONG with penalty fees for each smaller charge totalling close to 200.00 in penalty fees.

DEFINATELY CROOKED AS THE DAY IS LONG! I CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH TAKE YOUR BUSINESS TO A MORE REPUTABLE COMPANY.

I wish there was a rating worse than very poor. I have banked with Suntrust for 14 years, they issued both my husband's and my credit cards. I always made more than my husband and paid both cards for the last 5 years since my husband became ill. Las year someone by error accessed my account and removed over 300 dollars. I caught it as I look at my account daily. Suntrust never picked up on it. Once I called they froze my account but neglected to tell me till after the fact. I was the one to tell them! I am never late on any payments, have had my same job for 13 years. I sold my house and moved into a fully paid for home my parents own, my car is paid for and my credit is excellent. I called to notify them of an address change, they immediately lowered my limits on my credit line, and froze the other one that I shared with my husband as I watched it online. Then they gave me an additional $241 on it. Wow! Because my husband died, they phucked me out of about $10,000 of credit line even though I always pay more than the monthly statments says I should pay, have never been late (they admitted it) , and did the right thing by notifiying them of an address change and my husband's death. The stupid ***** that was an an "credit expert" was rude, condescending and I hope gets a good night's sleep after screwing me today. Thank God I have another bank, who was more than happy to assist me in transferring my balances and raising my credit line. Tomorrow I am closing out everything I have at Suntrust and running to Wachovia. I hope Suntrust goes under, they deserve it. Rot in hell.

did you know that even if you have direct deposit for mid night you can still get charged 36.00 nsf fees even if your check is there they will still charge you for what ever comes in that night into your account and don't believe them when they tell you that they have a 1.00 safty any will not charge you nsf fees if you are less then a dollar short this is another chase type bank they take the largest amount out of your account so that they can charge you over and over for the smaller ones as they said on channel 9. all of my info is going to them to see what they do. a very unhappy customer.

I absolutely hate Suntrust bank. I have had several problems with them and they are never friendly at the 800 number. The branch tries to be friendly, but they never can tell me what is going on or anything. I deposited a check last Monday and then deposited another large check later that same day. They let me keep $1500 out of the check and did not tell me there would be a hold on any funds. The next day I noticed there was a huge difference from my balance and my available balance so I then asked them about it. I went to the branch and the teller stated that there was a 1 day hold on it so I told her that was no problem at all. She then said wait a minute let me look again and then stated it would be held for 7 days and the funds would be available on the 13th. Low and behold today is the 13th and the funds are still not in my account....imagine that. I am going to the branch first thing this morning when they open to see if there is something they can do. It wouldn't even upset me if they would not lie. We tried calling the 800 number, but she said the funds would be available when they updated their system tonight which in fact happens at like 4 a.m. and that is not the 13th that is the 14th. I would not recommend this bank to anyone!

We recently moved to the south and had to switch bank. We went into the Suntrust experience pretty naively; we should have done our research.

We had been with them for about two months in total and had deposited about 3-4 paychecks into our checking account when they decided to put a "hold" on our paycheck about two weeks ago without informing us. I had checked our online banking earlier in the day and our deposit had cleared so I went to the grocery store. My card was declined for insufficient funds.

Figuring this was a mistake (luckily we had another form of payment we could use at that time so we didn't have to leave our 200.00 worth of food in the store and walk away ~mortifying), we went home and checked our online account.

They had debited the entire deposit amount out of our account and, upon further investigation by my husband, they had put a hold on the deposit (his paycheck and a check from another personal account ) for 7 days because it raised a "red flag."

Right. One of the checks that I had deposited had already cleared our other account. The other check was a paycheck from RBC ~literally across the street from this particular Suntrust bank branch. We could very well have gone over to RBC, cashed the paycheck and BROUGHT them the cash if we knew this was going to happen. (That is what my husband is going to do today with our paycheck, by the way. I'm pretty sure they can't put "holds" on cash deposits, but you never know. I don't trust them. AT ALL.)

I had never heard of a practice like this, and certainly didn't anticipate this debacle happening. So....I had gone ahead and paid our bills for the month, plus we had automatic debits come out for student loans, car loans, etc.

You can imagine the fees that were accrued. Luckily, my husband can be intimidating and he demanded (he had to DEMAND it because even the branch VP said she couldn't do it) that the hold be taken off and the fees be removed IMMEDIATELY.

They said that the "hold" was for our "protection," which is a load of ****. It put our finances, our reputations and our credit in jeopardy. Upon doing a little more research, we have found that they have done this sort of thing to others we know.

We are currently looking for a new bank and are letting others know what happened to us at Suntrust.

The problem I have with Suntrust is that they treat you like the criminal should your account information be used fraudulently. It takes several days for you to receive a credit to your account after your card has been used fraudulently, and they are not sympathetic. Their process is to make you fax an afidavid to them, then patiently wait 3-5 business days for your money to be credited on a "temporary credit" until their investigation is complete. What kind of multi-million dollar bank does not have the capacity to simply put a temporary credit IMMEDIATELY into your account?...Remember fraud is NO FAULT OF YOUR OWN! Almost every bank I can think of instantly puts the temporary credit back into your account THEN does the investigation. Every bank offers free checking, but these are the things that differentiate banks. Its called SERVICE and you will not get it when something out of the ordinary happens on your account. I am officially done doing business with them and my girlfriend is as well. Just wrote a complaint to them via email but they will probably be out of business before anyone gets around to reading it!

Also, I have had the same situation as Tim, where I deposit a check, they tell me before I deposit it the date that the funds will be available. After the deposit is complete, they're like "oh, sorry, it wont be available for another 7 days after the date we told you." WHAT? At this point, there is nothing you can do except wait. (regardless of how many bills you need to pay)They cannot undo the transaction. I will take my check to a check cashing business before I ever do business with these crooks again. They are a regional, bottom of the food-chain bank headed for financial disaster. Do not be suprised if they are the next bank to be bought out by Chase or BofA b/c no bank can get by with ******* off customers like this for very long.

I give Suntrust a negative 5 stars. We have an account there that we use for on hand cash. I checked my account and calculated what I needed to add to pay a check that I needed to write from that account. On the 14th of August around 4:00 I made a deposit of the amount I would need to cover the check. On the 15th when I checked my account I realized I miscaculated by $47.00. I expected to pay a fee of $36.00. Well think again. Rather than pay the items as they had come in, Suntrust chose to pay the largest item which came in last. The Bank manager revealed that Suntrust purposely takes out the large items before the smaller ones. This resulted in 6 NSF fees totalling -$263.00 of which they refunded only $108 leaving me to give them $155.00. Needless to say I will close that account and do ALL my banking with Wachovia.

so you are saying that you calculated, figured out that you miscalculated, they gave you back $108 for the mistake you made and they are the bad guy? If you miscalculate a check to your electric company do they leave your lights on and refund part of your late fee? you would be writing them another check in the dark.
