did you know that even if you have direct deposit for mid night you can still get charged 36.00 nsf fees even if your check is there they will still charge you for what ever comes in that night into your account and don't believe them when they tell you that they have a 1.00 safty any will not charge you nsf fees if you are less then a dollar short this is another chase type bank they take the largest amount out of your account so that they can charge you over and over for the smaller ones as they said on channel 9. all of my info is going to them to see what they do. a very unhappy customer.
I absolutely hate Suntrust bank. I have had several problems with them and they are never friendly at the 800 number. The branch tries to be friendly, but they never can tell me what is going on or anything. I deposited a check last Monday and then deposited another large check later that same day. They let me keep $1500 out of the check and did not tell me there would be a hold on any funds. The next day I noticed there was a huge difference from my balance and my available balance so I then asked them about it. I went to the branch and the teller stated that there was a 1 day hold on it so I told her that was no problem at all. She then said wait a minute let me look again and then stated it would be held for 7 days and the funds would be available on the 13th. Low and behold today is the 13th and the funds are still not in my account....imagine that. I am going to the branch first thing this morning when they open to see if there is something they can do. It wouldn't even upset me if they would not lie. We tried calling the 800 number, but she said the funds would be available when they updated their system tonight which in fact happens at like 4 a.m. and that is not the 13th that is the 14th. I would not recommend this bank to anyone!
We recently moved to the south and had to switch bank. We went into the Suntrust experience pretty naively; we should have done our research.
We had been with them for about two months in total and had deposited about 3-4 paychecks into our checking account when they decided to put a "hold" on our paycheck about two weeks ago without informing us. I had checked our online banking earlier in the day and our deposit had cleared so I went to the grocery store. My card was declined for insufficient funds.
Figuring this was a mistake (luckily we had another form of payment we could use at that time so we didn't have to leave our 200.00 worth of food in the store and walk away ~mortifying), we went home and checked our online account.
They had debited the entire deposit amount out of our account and, upon further investigation by my husband, they had put a hold on the deposit (his paycheck and a check from another personal account ) for 7 days because it raised a "red flag."
Right. One of the checks that I had deposited had already cleared our other account. The other check was a paycheck from RBC ~literally across the street from this particular Suntrust bank branch. We could very well have gone over to RBC, cashed the paycheck and BROUGHT them the cash if we knew this was going to happen. (That is what my husband is going to do today with our paycheck, by the way. I'm pretty sure they can't put "holds" on cash deposits, but you never know. I don't trust them. AT ALL.)
I had never heard of a practice like this, and certainly didn't anticipate this debacle happening. So....I had gone ahead and paid our bills for the month, plus we had automatic debits come out for student loans, car loans, etc.
You can imagine the fees that were accrued. Luckily, my husband can be intimidating and he demanded (he had to DEMAND it because even the branch VP said she couldn't do it) that the hold be taken off and the fees be removed IMMEDIATELY.
They said that the "hold" was for our "protection," which is a load of ****. It put our finances, our reputations and our credit in jeopardy. Upon doing a little more research, we have found that they have done this sort of thing to others we know.
We are currently looking for a new bank and are letting others know what happened to us at Suntrust.
The problem I have with Suntrust is that they treat you like the criminal should your account information be used fraudulently. It takes several days for you to receive a credit to your account after your card has been used fraudulently, and they are not sympathetic. Their process is to make you fax an afidavid to them, then patiently wait 3-5 business days for your money to be credited on a "temporary credit" until their investigation is complete. What kind of multi-million dollar bank does not have the capacity to simply put a temporary credit IMMEDIATELY into your account?...Remember fraud is NO FAULT OF YOUR OWN! Almost every bank I can think of instantly puts the temporary credit back into your account THEN does the investigation. Every bank offers free checking, but these are the things that differentiate banks. Its called SERVICE and you will not get it when something out of the ordinary happens on your account. I am officially done doing business with them and my girlfriend is as well. Just wrote a complaint to them via email but they will probably be out of business before anyone gets around to reading it!
Also, I have had the same situation as Tim, where I deposit a check, they tell me before I deposit it the date that the funds will be available. After the deposit is complete, they're like "oh, sorry, it wont be available for another 7 days after the date we told you." WHAT? At this point, there is nothing you can do except wait. (regardless of how many bills you need to pay)They cannot undo the transaction. I will take my check to a check cashing business before I ever do business with these crooks again. They are a regional, bottom of the food-chain bank headed for financial disaster. Do not be suprised if they are the next bank to be bought out by Chase or BofA b/c no bank can get by with ******* off customers like this for very long.
I give Suntrust a negative 5 stars. We have an account there that we use for on hand cash. I checked my account and calculated what I needed to add to pay a check that I needed to write from that account. On the 14th of August around 4:00 I made a deposit of the amount I would need to cover the check. On the 15th when I checked my account I realized I miscaculated by $47.00. I expected to pay a fee of $36.00. Well think again. Rather than pay the items as they had come in, Suntrust chose to pay the largest item which came in last. The Bank manager revealed that Suntrust purposely takes out the large items before the smaller ones. This resulted in 6 NSF fees totalling -$263.00 of which they refunded only $108 leaving me to give them $155.00. Needless to say I will close that account and do ALL my banking with Wachovia.
They dont even deserve a star. They have lied to me numerous times, they put a fraud hold on my payroll check that I deposited on friday 7/25/2009 and was told the funds would be in there immediately, went to make a purchase, was declined. went back to same bank and teller and now was told midnight. Saturday morning, I paid my monthly bills, went to buy food for my family and was declined again. Called customer service they not put a fraud hold because the funds couldnt be verified. So I spoke with a corporate manager would told me that the corporate office could do nothing that basically the branches ran the company, so if they can't do anything why to they make close to 6 figures a year. Anyways now I was told monday before i could get food for my family and gas to go back to work. Monday, still not available, so i called again and now it was said that unless the other bank sent over the funds, they couldn't release it til August 1st over a week away ( no remember I had no food for my wife and 7 yr old daughter and no gas for work), so I call my works bank and was told tuesday morning the funds would be sent over. Tuesday morning posted lifted but now they charged me 144.00 in overdraft charge for the bills I paid with my check before they put a hold on it. So again I called customer service and was told they would be refunded once the funds were available. They had the funds from the other bank and refused to release my money still, now I have to wait to August 1st and hope they give me back the overdraft charges. This is the worst bank by far, I am closing my account once the money is in there and sent a complaint to the better business bureau.
It is so crazy I would have money in my account from my direct deposit from my job on a friday by sunday I would have overdrawn I dont get it and this happens every pay period I can not even my my bills because I have to pay suntrust what is going on I know now it is time to find another bank never suntrust
I have been banking with Suntrust for a few years now and normally I don't have any problems with them. Recently though I had signed up for one of those free trials where they place a dollar on hold in your account to confirm your credit card but the dollar never posts it just falls off. Well incidently I had miscalculated a withdrawel from my account that made me negative and Suntrust not only gave me an NSF fee for the withdrawel but also charged me one for the pending dollar that was placed on hold for my free trial. I called the branch to talk to the manager to try and get that one fee reversed and he told me he could not do that because it was not a bank error. I told him the situation about the free trial and he still replied that he could not reverse that one fee. I don't understand how a bank can charge a NSF fee for something they had not even paid for yet and wouldn't ever. Beware of fees on pending items whether they will or will not fall off! Another incident that I incurred with Suntrust was that I was waiting in line at the drive thru to make a deposit behind another customer a little before closing time. When I pulled up to make my transaction the lady told me she had already shut down and wasn't able to make my deposit. I argued with her that I was already in line before closing time and she stated she could not help me. What a joke, customer satisfaction is not upheld with Suntrust so be cautious of who you decide to bank with.
unfortunately there isn't a rating low enough for this so-called bank...i have been fighting with them for a year now about whether i owe a payment on a truck i traded and paid off, even though i have a letter FROM SUNTRUST stating that the loan is paid in full. They are crooks, changing their code number to circumvent a stop payment i put on a direct draft....even when i proved to them that they did indeed get an extra payment out of me, they wanted to see my bank statement for the following month because suddenly their story went from "we ddidn't get that extra payment" to "oh, we gave that back"! don't think so!!! you could not PAY me enough to get involved with this bank ever again!! BEWARE!!! This bank is as crooked as the day is long!!!
I give suntrust zip. The bank change our checking acct with out us knowing about it and charge a fee but we got it back, the bank try to cover it up- well we are changing our acct to somewhere eles. Here is another thing, we had a direct deposit, and we had two or more checks that came in we had about 50 in our acct. do you know suntrust charge us nsf they took our money then the other check went though, very dirty bank. check your acct everyday if you have suntrust they will ripe you off.
so you are saying that you calculated, figured out that you miscalculated, they gave you back $108 for the mistake you made and they are the bad guy? If you miscalculate a check to your electric company do they leave your lights on and refund part of your late fee? you would be writing them another check in the dark.
