I totally agree with you! I was happy for about a year allowing a few overdrafts, and I was managing well when suddenly my money started disappearing and more checks bounced when should not have. I am disabled and on limited income, when I opened the account my credit score was good and NO-ONE offered me overdraft protection. I thought it was automatic as I have dealt several banks before and TCF was closeby. Anyways, in the last 2-3 months, I deposited over $1800 extra (with hardship) only to find out most of that money had been taken for $35 fee! There were each $35 charge on top of another because when they start reducing your account, the fees kept accumulating for everytime there is NSF to cover your NSF until it's all negative. This is gouging the customer and not helping at all. I put a freeze on my account and I recently received a warning letter from TCF that if I do not put in over $700 in fee charges, they will do all sorts of damage to your credit, report you to check bouncing agencies, Legal action, etc. I am going through a very difficult time now and TCF basically stolen most of the extra money of about $1800 I deposited to keep my account into positive not negative, and my bills were mostlybounced because of that. I cannot keep feeding TCF piggy bank! What can be done to reclaim my NSF fees - report them to. BBB, D.A. Attorney, your localpaper? Any advice?

If I had a choice I wouldn't even give one star for this bank. It is horrible!
We applied for a mortgage which was approved and we were told our interest rate was 4.75%, two days before closing the mortgage broker told us he misquoted us and our interest rate was going to be upped to 5.75%. Knowing we couldn't back out because we bought a bank owned home, we were stuck! Watch out, they do this at the last minute to get more commissions and when they know you can't back out.
We closed in June 2009. Next, we asked for statements so we could pay our bills online and nothing ever came in the mail. They didn't give us account numbers and when we called, they said they can't look up our a/c numbers without our a/c. I said, that is fine, I will give you my SSN and you can look it up that way. They can't do that either!!!! So finally I had to go into the branch store and have our Mortgage guy look up the a/c number for us to pay our mortgage. We had to call and speak today to someone in the branch but when you call 1-800-TCF BANK, they are NOT allowed to give you the phone number of the branch office when I asked why, the customer service rep stated that because we could "interrupt them when they are with a customer". EXCUSE ME!! What kind of customer service is that! The only way you can get their number is if you know someone that works there and they are willing to give you their number. PLEASE!!!!! So basically any time you need to speak to someone you MUST go into the branch to speak to someone. RIDICULOUS. Also, in July 2009 when it was time to pay our mortgage, they said they changed our a/c to have statements sent to us so we could pay that way. As of Oct. we still have yet to receive ANY mail from TCF with the exception of them wanting us to purchase their Mortgage Insurance. YEAH RIGHT!!! So, as of Nov. 2009 we still don't have statements to send our payment in, we MUST go into the branch and they still haven't gotten it corrected.
BEWARE - NEVER USE!!!!

In their promotional material, TCF says "Tell your friends about the confidence you have in us." So, I will.
On Sept. 28 I opened an account at the TCF branch in my local Jewel. I wanted a separate account for my business travel expenses and the location was convenient. Opened the account with a $1500 expense check I'd received from my local employer (drawn on a local bank). On October 7 (9 days after opening account: 7 business days) I do an electronic funds transfer for $1200to pay my Amex bill -- and TCF bounces it and charges me $35!
I got nothing but blank stares at my local branch and nobody had a reasonable explanation other than "sometimes it takes longer for new account deposits to clear". Well, that's not my opinion of how you treat a new customer -- and it's probably a preview of more surprises to come -- so I closed my account.
As they suggested, I will gladly "tell me friends" that they should never do business with TCF Bank!
Dear Sirs of TCF Banks
As of this day 09/10/2009 you are now officially notified that I/we will no longer be doing business with your Bank and to close all accounts. This is all do to the resent issues and or circumstances that have compiled in the last two years of my 20 Plus years with you.
Cancellation of Credit/Debit card with out my authorization.
Manipulation of posted checks.
No reimbursement for new checks that were never received.
Had to pay $3.00 ATM fee that I canceled out of at the machine.
Wrong deposits into my account.
Fines and fees for depositing a bad TCF check and no reimbursement when it was found to be a teller error at another TCF branch.
Internet user fees for Credit/Debit card usage.
Poor online account/statements” NO INTERACTION”
Many business will not except TCF checks
Below are explanations of above bullet points
1.Some time back mid 2007 I had opened a new account in just my name because I was separating from my ex wife. Then a month or two went by and your bank had canceled my Credit/Debit card with out my authorization. I believe that when the ex closed our joint account there was a bank mix up. “NOT MY FAULT” Thanks for all the embarrassment and inconvenience!
2.Some time back mid winter of 2007 I had three small Credit/Debit card transactions that were posted a day before a gasoline charge that was pending. I seen in my account that I needed to put more cash in to cover it so I did. This was just minutes after the gas purchase. So what did you do? Your bank have removed the three small Credit/Debit card transactions that were posted ,then payed the gasoline charge that was pending, then fine me 3 times just before you posted the cold hard cash ( the green stuff) that I gave you.”THATS NOT RIGHT OR FARE” 20 +years don't mean nothing to you does it?
3.Back in March of year “2009” I had sent off the form for new checks but never received them. So to play it safe I had to close that account and open a new one.”INCONVENIENCED AGAIN” This again had its own fines and fees that I had to fight to get removed. And never did get reimbursement for new checks that were never received.
4.In June 2009 I stopped some where to eat, went to get $20.00 from an ATM machine, when I seen that they wanted $3.00 for the transaction I canceled out.”OPT OUT” went with out. Then weeks later seen the $3.00 was removed from my account. Wow 3 bucks to say no to $20. Never seen that coming.
5.Just this August 6 2009 I was surprised to see that a check that I had made out to my Ex Wife was deposited into my account. Is she giving it back to me? Banks don't make mistakes or do they? Why is there no fines or fees for you?
6.Around Christmas of 2008 My brother gave me a check from his TCF account just a few days later your Bank had remove the amount that was given to me plus tagged on a $35.00 fee dew to insufficient funds. In the following days my Brother had found that a teller had put his money into his savings account and not his checking as his receipt had shown. Why was I not reimbursed? ”INCONVENIENCED AGAIN and a EMBARRASSMENT “and at Christmas time Way to go “SCROOGE”
7. On 08/19/2009 as I was trying to pay my wireless phone bill on line as I all ways have done. I was having difficulty doing so because a small window kept popping up saying something about TCF/VISA Security & Protection. I was not aloud to pay this bill until I signed into this program. I seen nothing of any kind of a fee for this service as I was signing up. The next day what do you know there was the fee waiting for me in my account.
8. Your online banking is a joke not only is there no customer interaction but it easy for you to Manipulate. Its time to trash the excel looking program! The new bank I just started in there online check works more like a check register when I write out a check I can all so type it into my account that shows up pending and when the check is clear they post it. Yours is set up so that any one that lives from pay check too pay check is sure to fail. I see this as discrimination
“PREYING ON THE POOR” unfair and immoral.
9.I have been seen more and more business with signs in
In closing of this letter I do hope you can see and understand as to why I can no longer put my trust into your Bank. I have been told by your staff that all the banks are doing the same. Again you lie to me in the time I spent looking for a new bank I have not yet found one that is as corrupt with Manipulations,Fees ,Fines, and teller incompetence. Maybe some day you will go back to the days when the customer is number one concern, and treat every one as an equal before its to late. For I see it time for your bank to set down and restructure your banking methodology, reeducate and/or retrain staff to fit the needs of the general public.

I was really happy with TCF Bank for about a year. Then this week, I had an authorized withdrawal for $249.00 on Tuesday that produced a negative balance. They went back and took that withdrawal out first and then withdrew the earlier debit card charges from the weekend, creating $280.00 in overdraft fees. These people are crooks.

If there was a negative star I would. They should not even be a bank. I have two accounts I transferred money form one to another well in the mean time I used my card that’s why I transferred the money I got an Over draft fee because "the funds didn’t clear" its from the same bank! Well I called customer service and I got the WORST customer service ever the girl had an attitude and was saying "whatever" I felt like I was talking to a 16 year old girl. This is just one incident I have had many none good. TCF stands for the customer first I did not feel first at anytime. Plus my Fiancé worked for tcf and quite because of the bull ****. The employees steal he seen so many get fired they will make transaction from your bank account what they also do is reissue a card or another card and use it or they say bank information was lost so they had to reissue alot of card and didnt want to "alarm you" it happened to my cousin they employee is in jail. So when u walk in and you feel like a "thug" is helping you that’s because they are. In my area employees have tattoos on their neck and face. Its terrible don’t bank with this so called bank

Do not open an account here.
I've many stories I could submit, but the latest was when I visited a TCF branch and attempted to withdrawl a small amount of money as spending cash from the teller, as my ATM card was at home. Despite having a drivers license, recent transaction memories, my SS number, mothers maiden name, account number and password, etc.. they would not let me withdrawl my money as I opened the account in a different TCF branch (which I could identify). Crazy. I'm only here until I can a better location... This week. You've been warned, repeated poor service, poor management. Run away.

About a year ago someone was able to access my checking account on-line and over $400 was taken out of it. TCF did nothing to recover the money. Thankfully, Pay Pal was able to eventually refund my funds. Today, I received a statement from TCF stating that they had closed my account since it hadn't been used in 6 months.I immediately went to MINOOKA, IL branch and spoke with the branch manager who refused to refund my money. I insisted she get a supervisor on the phone, which she did, to no avail. Apparently, their policy is to steal your money if the account isn't used in 6 months. I have had many accounts at other banks that have been dorment longer than that and have never had any issues. TCF should be very proud of the fact that they are able to take money from a hard working 18 year old.

I am a new customer of some 35 days, give or take some. Signing up was easy but I have been waiting this full length of time for my debit card after three 0f there clerk/teller/management personnel promised that they were putting in a request for the debit card.
So, here I am, the third request should go in today, day number 35/6. Who know for certain. This complaint is not enough. I need to notify others in authority so our financial dealings with TCF can go more smoothly.
