What is your Dream Job?
-
Tell me, I really want to know. If the next email/phone call you received was from someone who could make your dream job a reality, then what would it be?
My standard line is that if I could do it all over again, I would have been born into old money. Well, that's not a job, that's a lifestyle.
Job? I guess it would have to be either horse racing expert for a national media entity (http://tr.im/pDb9) or the Chief Operating Officer of Churchill Downs Incorporated (http://tr.im/pDbp).
Of course, there's always rock icon (http://tr.im/pDcr). Hey, if we're dreaming, then why not?
Remember, this isn't a conversation about wealth.

"Starting 2B/C (I'm realistic. My chances are better if I'm willing to play either.) for the Mets" is starting sound trite and naive, if not self-deceiving. But play-by-play guy still feels like a fair answer. I'm not saying I'd be better than Gary Cohen (I wouldn't be). But it'd still be a dream. Lots of travel around the nation, great seats at the game, conversation with Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez. What would be bad about it? I'd finally see games in Phoenix and Tampa, the only cities whose stadiums I haven't seen.
Also, beach bartender/DJ will always be on the list.

Professional board member without all of the prerequisites of getting into such a position (like running a company, being a lawyer or accountant). I'd get to get my hands dirty with some of the nastiest corporate issues and help set direction.
I'm not sure if it would be for established corporations, start-ups or non-profits.
After that, professional audience member (live in studio) or Traffic Light Operator, which I once dubbed as the ultimate psychoanalytical job.

My dream job is to be Jack Johnson, the surfer/musician/director. What is more incredible than retiring from pro surfing only to make a fortune playing cool beach music with your buddies while filming incredible surfing movies. So not only do I vote Jack Johnson the coolest man alive, I also declare his life to be my dream job. Well done Jack!

This is a tough question. I have always dreamed of making a bunch of money and retiring to be a High School basketball coach. I think, more recently, that I want to be a successful entrepreneur and angel investor that gets to talk about technology all day.
That said, I am not sure that is better than getting paid to play basketball all day...

Truthfully, if someone were going to call right this minute and offer me my dream job, it would either be as the Anna Wintour of online (the EIC of a major women's 'zine) or I would have to say that it would be as a fashion stylist to the stars. I think the limitless wardrobe, unlimited creativity and access to the most amazing talent in fashion and beauty would truly make these jobs where I would have to pinch myself every day!
-
I think I still honestly don't know, but right now being a fashion director/stylist at a magazine is high on my list. Creating style boards, conceptualizing shoots, working with clothes and everything about the fashion world is so exhilarating. (And ditto to everything else Kristin said about working in fashion!) On the other hand, if I had the comfort of money then I'd go back to finish my Apparel Design degree and just make clothes to sell on Etsy and for my friends all the time.

I'd have to say this would be a matter of the old 'location, location, location' adage for me though if I got the call tomorrow, it would have to be the whole package. A great title (anything like user experience engineer, interaction designer, information architect), a creative and talented team environment, a flexible and casual workplace environment, an abundance of well financed and thoughtful clients, and an office someplace in Vancouver, BC (mountains, city, wilderness, ocean all in close proximity). I guess that's about it. Unless I was to go with professional global adventurer....

Posts16FranciscoI would love to own an international renowned car tuning company like AC Schnitzer or VeilSide. It would be so much fun to design car parts to make cars go faster and look better. Not to mention it could be an extremely profitable business.

Good stuff Cmemery - I have known you long enough now to know that you can make that happen!

The President!
Why not, everythung is suited to you as a national advisor of situational reasonings. You are equipped with customized security protocall to obtain the ultimate public protection display.
Did I mention that I wnated to be the President, so I'd be idealized instantly by supporters and opposers alike, so I'd be straight.
And needless to mention that I'd be president!

Aaron...I like it. However, I think I'd prefer Senior White House Adviser. That way I get to tell the President what to do, but I don't suffer any of the public pressure. Power behind the throne, so to speak.

A school teacher. Hopefully a day will come when I'd be able to afford this (almost volunteer-like) line of work.
-
I just learned the title "Personal DJ." That should be on my list too. I wouldn't even have to change my handle.
-
Rick Steves has the coolest job. Get paid to travel and learn about the history of countries and cultures and share that knowledge with others. Over the years, I would amass a ton of stories to share with friends and family.
My dream job would definitely tie in with sightseeing the world.

Well, since Daniel stole my answer (it was actually 1st baseman for the NY Mets...hey I hear that job may be opening up soon), I'll have to go with archeologist.
Maybe it was watching all those Indiana Jones movies as a kid or just a natural intrigue with history but something about being able to travel around the world searching for links to the past and learning about humanity's history seems pretty cool to me.

I always though it would be nice to manage a server remotely from the house. Sit in my Hari Krisha robe with 14 days of stubble and nuking a virus in Belgium.
-
This is one of those morning when I think I might be actually living my dream. Sorry Jack Johnson, I still love you though =)
