About IRS Form 1040 (Schedule EIC)

Sponsored by

Schedule EIC of Form 1040 deals with the Earned Income Tax Credit. It requires the name, date of birth, and Social Security number of each child claimed as a dependent by the taxpayer. It also requires the taxpayer to supply the child's relationship to the taxpayer and the number of months that the child spent with the taxpayer. This information is needed to ensure that the child is a qualifying child for EITC purposes. (Seven million children reportedly disappeared from EITC claims when this form was introduced.)
