as of today, my AIG fixed annuities are looking way too risky because if AIG doesn't survive this credit crisis, my money is in deep trouble. my advice for anyone looking to buy annuities right now is to check the financial condition of the company first (in this case, AIG might not be doing so well) if the company looks shaky because of the crisis, just throw your money in a CD instead.

if the annuity provider fails and you have an annuity with them, you might get some money back from liquidation of the company or from my state guaranty association.
