An Allstate Checking Plus Interest account has higher minimum balances than a regular checking account but lets you earn interest on your account balance. The account has competitive rates and no fee when the minimum balance is maintained. Other perks include a free MasterCard MoneyCard debit card, deals on checks and monthly ATM reimbursements.

You get interest with this account, so it's a step up from the regular checking account. The only drawback, is that you've got to maintain a monthly balance of $2000 or you'll get hit with an $11 fee every month. Unless you've got that money, you might go with the basic plan.
