Kansas LearningQuest 529 Education Savings Program from American Century Investments

The Kansas LearningQuest 529 Education Savings Program allows you to effectively save money towards a college education.  There is a $1,000 ($250 for Kansas residents) initial investment minimum.  Or, you can open an account with an automatic investment of $50 per month ($25 for Kansas residents) from your bank account or paycheck. Any earnings grow tax deferred at the federal and Kansas state levels. Kansas taxpayers receive an annual adjusted gross income deduction of up to $3,000 ($6,000 if married, filing jointly) for contributions per beneficiary, per year. The earnings portion of withdrawals used to pay for qualified education expenses is tax free at the federal and Kansas state levels. You may contribute annually up to $12,000 per beneficiary without being subject to gift tax, or no federal gift tax on contributions per beneficiary up to $60,000 ($120,000 for spousal gifts) in a single year.
