My husband and I bought our first home 3.5 years ago and were told our roof was only 18 months old. We thought bonus, one less thing we will have to do to this home to put it in tip top shape. Well in 2008 a tornado went threw our neighborhood and we weren't sure if there was any damage to our roof from the hail, debree, and strong winds considering house two blocks over were destroyed. So, we had American Family come out and take a look, and they informed us our roof was in great shape no problems. We didn't have anything to worry about. Then in the spring of 2009, my husband and I were cleaning out our gutters and noticed all the pit marks almost the size of half dollars and lots of cracking on our roof. So, we called and had them come out and reinspect and they said, "oh yeah we documented de-lamination of your roof last year and we won't be covering anything. So, we are currently in the process of switching. I think they are a very deceitful company. Had they been honest from the get go. Maybe we wouldn't be upset, but they told us our roof was fine and not to worry about spending $6000.00 to replace it. Our roof is 5 years old and we have to pay for a new one when there is clear signs of hail damage. I wish I could load pics.

I just bought a house and was talking to my insurance agent (from American Family) and he said he needed to know if I decided to get pets. One day I called and told my American Family agent I was looking at possibly getting a pit bull. The agent told me that if I get a pit bull, rot, chow, etc... he would cancel my home owners insurance. It seemd like we are getting more like a communist country. Our freedoms are slipping more and more, but I will switch insurance companies after the first of the year. It isn't fair for us to pay insurance and be told what kind of pet we can have. Next, the insurance companies will be telling us what kind of car we can drive.

I had American Family Insurance for several years, and luckily did not need to file a claim. But the agent, Carl Forman, provided very poor service. He didn't provie proof of insurance to my lender. I could never reach anyone even when I called during business hours. I would leave messages that I wanted to increase coverage and they still didn't respond. So I switched elsewhere just prior to my renewal date. I cancelled my policy in writing and thought that was that. No, then the trouble started. I kept getting bills. I sent 3 notices in writing to cancel and the bills continued. Then the collection agency harassment. I have excellent credit and their practices are threatening that good credit. Written notices sent certified mail, and they are still harassing me.

I've had American Family Insurance for several years. I absolutely love it. When a really bad wind storm came through, and damaged my room, my agent was there for me. He came and took pictures, and got an adjuster on the scene right away. It was nice to be shown personal attention like that. Also, my rates didn't even raise because it was a wind claim. Since they started rating their policies on credit, my rates have gone down further.

We had American Family and I was very dissapointed! We had them several years and I had called them to let them know we had put up a pool. I was in no way distressed that our rates went up because of the pool. What upset me was the agent heard my big dog barking and asked what breed she was. I said she was a Rottweler Doberman cross. Our rates got raised even higher because we had that breed of dog. She was 9 years old and had never hurt a fly. I was furious and changed carriers!
