I have an Ameriprise One account and have been unimpressed with the lack of insurance and features associated with their debit card. While all the other major brokerage houses offer gold and platinum debit cards for their clients, Ameriprise makes you open a credit card and pay an annual fee of over $100 to have access to the aforementioned benefits. As my local bank issues a platinum debit card to anybody who opens a checking account, I cannot understand why Ameriprise's debit card is so substandard. They also do not have 24 hour customer service. If I didn't have an account there already, I would seriously consider opening one with another brokerage - like Fidelity or Merrill Lynch.

Although this has nothing to do with the debit card issue, I have been exceedingly pleased with the competence and attentiveness of my broker. She cannot be faulted for her company's poor debit card product. In the end, it is the management of my portfolio that is paramount. Therefore, I will take the good with the bad, cross my fingers and hope that Ameriprise will eventually upgrade their debit card.
