Sure, the checking account is free but not the checks. BB&T charges nearly $25 for a single box of checks. I only learned this after the fee was withdrawn from my account, not when I ordered the checks at my local branch!

I opened an account a month ago. I was told of the 2:00 cut-off for deposits. All banks I have dealt with do that, I have had no problems. The first time I deposited my paycheck was on a Friday afternoon at 4:00. I wrote a check to myself to transfer $300 of my paycheck to a joint account at another bank. That check cleared on Friday night and my deposit was not credited until Monday. On Tuesday I was charged an overdraft fee even though my bank balance never showed a negative balance. Run from this bank it is a predatory bank that makes its money from unsuspecting customers,

I have three different checking accounts with BB&T (2 personal and ! business). Excellent customer service. If you ever encounter a problem this is the bank you want to deal with. Have not had any issues with BB&T in the 10+ years I have had open accounts. Direct deposit is flawless. Online banking couldn't be easier. Transfering money between accounts (I do this a lot) is as simple as 2 clicks. Have never had a problem finding an ATM here in the south. Highly recommend this checking account.

I have had my checking account with BB&T for many years now and love it. I really have no complaints. Their online banking is easy to use and the website always loads well. My transactions show up pretty quickly, which helps eliminate confusion when I'm balancing the checkbook. My branch is always very polite and cheerful when I go there.

I have had a free checking account with this bank for a few years. I have never had any problems with them. The staff on the phone and in the banks are always friendly. The bank even offers free notary services to the customers which is great! I am very pleased with this bank and would not change banks. The only drawback is they are not nation wide.

I've been using BB&T Free Checking for almost four years now and I have rarely, if ever, had any problems with them. Checks deposit in a timely fashion, and anytime I have used direct deposit it has worked perfectly. I would recommend BB&T to anyone.

I have had an account with this bank, and I had nothing but problems, they took TWO weeks to approve a payroll check, when I was told it would have taken three days. It was nothing but a nightmare, I do not recommend this at all.
