So, I'm not sure about the blank check thing Capital One now does but i had a used car loan through them and it was an absolute disaster! I tried for months calling in the the 800 number to clear up the discrepancies and they couldn't accurately find the source of the problem for close to a year. Meanwhile I accrued an INSANE amount of "penalty" interest on top of my regular crazy high intere…st rate and it not only distroyed my credit by late fees it ultimately led to a repo which will lurk around for the next 7 years. They were unwilling to work with me or admit their mistake. Even after I was given incorrect information on at least 4 separate documented occasions. I will NEVER do business with them again and would strong warn anyone considering them to think twice.

I haved used Capital One twice to refinance used car loans. The interest rate was higher then most would typically pay, but due to my challenged credit I was pleased at the approvals. The process was convenient and I was able to reduce both of my car payments. When the cars were eventually paid the titles were quickly sent to me faster then I expected. A positive experience overall.

I took this loan out almost a year ago, and I'm currently playing off my first year's worth. So far, whenever I check my balance, it goes down appropriately, and my interest rate was actually not bad, given my so-so credit. I was really drawn in by the low rate. However, the rate I wound up getting was substantially higher, despite my good credit. In any event, the "blank check" was easy to work with, and I was very happy with that. Most of all I was highly impressed with the quick approval time. A pretty good experience all around, but the rate was a set back.

Once the interest rates and terms are settled, Capital One sends you a blank check up to some maximum amount that you've qualified for. Take the check to the seller - either the dealer or to an individual. It …works EXACTLY like a check from your own checking account...only better because a $20,000 check from Cap One is trusted (and a $20,000 check from your checking account would be cross-checked). Oh, the check comes overnighted too - so this service is really fast.
