Macy's Credit Card Reviews

Macy's should somehow be held accountable for mispresenting what you are getting when you open a credit account with them. I applied for and was approved for a card, not knowing that what I actually was approved for was a Visa and a Macy's card- 1 card, 2 accounts. What a mess! I didn't know this until the phone bank located somewhere other than the US, called this past week to tell me I was late with a payment- which confused me because I had a statement in my hand with a credit showing on it. Only to find out that somehow I had taken the Visa statement into the store, paid the balance on the statement in full- only to find out that I had not actually paid the balance in full- the amount I paid was applied to the in store account. Any how- the customer service people I spoke to, the 2 in India and the woman in the US were not helpful- were rude, and disrespectful. Whatever happened to the customer being right- what ever happened to a company making an attempt to keep a customer? None of this happened- after much arguing, the american woman, was somehow able to take the credit, and apply it to the right card, and remove the late fees and finance charges. The accounts were closed- I won't bother you about how extremely difficult Macy's makes it to pay your balance/s on line! But they are paid in full... the accounts are closed. No more Macy's for me....and at least one person I told this story to yesterday...I know I will be telling anyone when the topic of Macy's, shopping, credit...etc comes up.

II work for Macy:s collections and people never pay their balance on their card until the due date and then they complain to us that we are the ones at fault. When you receive your statements from Macy's pay the bill right away, don't use an automated system to pay your bills-take the initiative and go to the store, pay on line through Macy's.com/paybill, or wait for a statement. Always allow enough time for the statement to be received and then you won't be charged late fees.
The other comment that I hear every day is that I am not late I am just three days past due. Note: we contact customers when their account is 33 days past due to inform them that they need to make a payment to us immediately. We never inform the credit bureaus until the account is 60 days past due. If you are 61 days past due you will be reported to the credit bureaus. If you have questions regarding the cardholder agreement the solution is simple pick up a credit card application located at the register and READ IT.
The majority of the customers that I deal with do not understand the card holder agreement, they do not read it and therefore vent out their frustrations on us.
Regarding late fees and other charges-customers need to read the card-holder agreement-all of it before agreeing to use the card. You would never buy a car before reading the lease, you wouldn't buy a house before signing a lease; why wouldn't the same issues apply when signing up for a card. Our credit card agreement format is the same as everyone elses is.

I really don't know as today I went to Macy's cologne counter to sample the Dolce Gabbana for men. The counter lady was really nice, offered me a "FREE" gift of other cologne samples, and encouraged me to try to get a Macy's store card eventhough I informed her that I have no job, no bank account, never had any credit, or store card before, I have no idea what my FICO score is if I even have one!, and am living on SSI, which is social security income. She still told me to apply anyway. This scares me as who in the devil would give someone in my circumstance a store charge card? She told me it would take 5 business days to find out. Please, if anyone out there knows anything about this, please post as I would like to know if there's anyway I could be approved under such horrid condition!..thanx

Don't get a Macy's card!
My experience with Macy's credit card has been none other than horrible. I applied for the card in a store and didn't receive it for two whole months - it turned out that they had sent the card to a wrong address. The person to whom the card was mistakenly sent had used it to make a large purchase, and I was billed for it! When I called customer service they finally sent me a new card, but I was still made to pay for the purchase I didn't make! Their reason was "the purchase was made while no lost card report was filed" - but how can I report the loss of a card that I had never received? In the several times I called their customer service department, I got nothing else than delays and put-offs.
I'm shocked by the lack of protection that allowed the fraud to happen in the first place, and the ineptitude (or even the unwillingness to take the trouble) of the credit card department to correct their errors.

Horrible! Apparently, they open two separate accounts - in-house and a revolving. I paid my bills on time using my bank's bill pay feature and even went and paid in the store when I thought something was wrong (I pointed out my situation and was assured he correctly applied my payment from his terminal). Now I have a $140 blemish on my credit report. I'll never shop at Macy's again

My husband opened a Macy's card because he would get 10% off of a $350 bill. I paid in full the next month but they claim we only paid $70. My bank statement shows $350 to Macys but since Macy's destroys the checks after they process the payment, I have no hard copy to give them. It has been a nightmare. Our bank statement apparently is not proof enough, and no one in the billing dept seems to know what they are doing. BEWARE.

I got this card when I got my first job with macy's and have had it since. I like my Macy's card. I love the savings and advanced notice I get in the mail. I have never had a problem with the customer service department and really enjoy the perks of having the platinum edition of the card. It really makes sense to have the card if you shop at macy's all of the time, you save a lot of money.

DO NOT GET THIS CARD, MACYS GIVES YOU A CREDIT CARD WITH GOOD STANDING AS SOON AS YOUR CREDIT GOES BAD THEY LOWER YOUR CREDIT LIMIT LOWER THAN WHAT YOU OWE THEM SO THAT THEY CAN LOWER YOUR CREDIT SCORE EVEN MORE. EXAMPLE: $500 MACYS CREDIT CARD, YOU CHARGE $300, THEN YOU PAY $100 ON YOUR BILL. YOUR CREDIT GOES BAD, MACYS DOES A CREDIT CHECK EVERY 90 DAYS ON YOU. THEY SEE YOUR CREDIT IS BAD THEY LOWER YOUR LIMIT TO $100 AND YOU OWE $200, THIS LOWERS YOUR SCORE.

if you shop at macys it doesnt make sense not to get the card. constant savings and offers on top of the initial 10% off make this a great card to have, especially come holiday season.

got this card while i was shopping at Macy's during last christmas. since i bought over $500 of stuff, the 10% of sigificant and well worth it for me to apply for this card. good thing is, they don't have a number of how many of these cards you can have, so when you buy a lot of stuff again, just sign up for another one to save some money.
another good thing is, you get coupons from Macy's in the mail after you sign up for this card.
