Though no longer an interest rate leader, the ING DIRECT Orange Savings Account continues to make Wilmington, Delaware proud. With no fees and no minimum balance, but lots and lots of marketing, the Orange Savings Accounts holds its rate up (High!) by going branchless and paperless.

Get an Orange Savings Account for... a high yield savings account with steady rates.

Save trendy cafes in New York, L.A., Philly, Chicago and Wilmington, the face of ING DIRECT is online. Less corporate overhead means more money for its Orange dough-nuts customers. The set-up is quick and funding and withdrawals are all done electronically.

But why all the Orange? ING DIRECT is a unit of Internationale Nederlanden Groep, the global banking and insurance giant based in Amsterdam where the Dutch are crazy for the vibrant color. Orange recalls the Franco-German Huis van Oranje-Nassau which helped liberate the Netherlands from Spanish rule in the 17th century. Descendants of the family still reign over the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Got that.

Having heard of the $25 bonus for opening an account, I quickly took advantage of this by opening an ING Savings Account.
One thing I liked about having an ING account is that the money is not accessible to me (not instantly anyway). But then, this can be a big downside as well. It took a while for the money to be transferred into the account, which is time lost when it could have been earning interest in a savings account (it took more than a week).

ING is an internet bank, so if you need a traditional brick and mortar bank, then this isn't for you. Actually, even if you wanted to open this savings account, you still need another traditional checking account to be able to transfer money in and out.

ING does offer competitive interest rates, but not lately. But if the economy gets better, they should be able to increase their interest rates.

I love ING savings! It can't get any easier. I have them withdrawl from my brick and mortar checking account every week. What an easy way to save your nest egg!
I have never had a problem with ING. The one time I lost my internet password they were very easy to work with!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ING!!! I first signed up with them about 3 years ago when we sold our house. Since it was going to be about 6 months until our new house was finished, we wanted a safe place to keep the money while still getting a decent return. They are extremely user friendly, accounts are easy to establish and manage, and the rates are better than any brick and mortar bank. I highly recommend them to everyone! AND once you get set up, you can "invite" your friends and family to join and will get paid $10.00 for every referral!!!

ING was my first online savings account, and setting it up was very easy. Their login system is very secure, and transferring money is usually done in 2 business days. Interest rate isn't as high as other online banks though.

I love ING Direct! I've been with them for years, and they are the only ones I've known with an OPT IN privacy policy! It is easy to set up, their customer service is stellar, and they have been consistent with their rates, so I am comfortable that they are not going anywhere.

A lot of online banks are offering rates around 3.5%. ING Direct was one of the first ones that offered a no minimum savings account. While 3% is not in the top tier, it still is much better than the local banks' rates. Rates keep fluctuating and rankings keep changing, so unless you are rate chaser, I would still recommend this account.

Not that I am a rate chaser.. but 3.5% from HSBC is still a better deal.
