TurboTax Reviews

I have been using TurboTax for years and have always been pleased. NOT THIS YEAR!! After inputting all the tax information and doing a final review and printing out the taxes everything looked fine. Refund in the amount of 3,378. BUT WE I HIT THE SUBMIT BUTTON IT SHOWED WE OWED THE GOVERNMENT OVER 20,000 dollars then flipped back to showing a refund in the amount of 3,378. Had no idea what was going on so I printed it out again. Once again, everything looked fine. So I kept checking the status of my refund and...guess what...it stated I needed to contact the IRS. I am waiting for a refund and the government is waiting for a check for over 20,000 dollars. I contacted TurboTax, because they have a guarantee. Well to make a long story short they blamed the error on me. Their guarantee is as WORTHLESS as their software
I used Turbo Tax to do my taxes this year and it was a relatively smooth and easy process. I had anticipated the filing process being a very difficult stressful thing, but TurboTax made the whole process very straightforward and easy to follow.

In the past I proudly did my taxes by hand and used TurboxTax for free to check my math. This year, because my tax situation got a bit more complicated, it was worth it to pay for the time savings of doing it all online. And indeed, it was so quick and easy! In less than an hour TurboTax walked me through all of the data entry for federal and state, and I had finished tax returns. Add in e-file and direct transfers to/from my bank account, and I literally did my taxes in one sitting without picking up a pen!

I have been using Turbo Tax for years and years and will no longer us it. This year Intuit in their infinite wisdom decided to raise the price on their Turbo Tax software and also add a fee for each tax return prepared over the initial 1. I prepare a number of tax returns for people that I do not charge for the work because they cannot afford it. Now don’t get me wrong I do get paid for some of the returns I prepare. So now that Intuit has done this, if I do 30 returns for the elderly it will cost me just under $300 to do so. People are looking toward their tax refunds in order to help make ends meet so what does Intuit do? hmmmm Thank you Intuit for looking toward making more profits and to overlook the needs of the American people during this time of economic downturn.

Having tried to prepare my own taxes before (and having failed), I gave this a shot on account of the many good reviews I'd seen. The software is very simple to use and intuitive, and walks you through everything assuming you know nothing about tax preparation (a good thing). I've used this now for both state and federal taxes, and haven't hit a hitch yet. If there's a downside to this product, I haven't found it yet.
Even if you like to do your taxes by hand, TurboTax is a great tool for catching simple mistakes and providing a last minute sanity-check. I haven't used the add-on software for deduction suggestions, as I found the core package more than suitable (for my needs).
As Minhthe noted, your second year using TurboTax can be a breeze if you choose to make use of the importing features. I haven't used their online version, but the desktop application definitely lets you pre-populate fields from the previous year's save-data.
The ability to export returns (and relevant forms) as PDF files is also a welcome feature - much more convenient than storing paper copies in a filing cabinet.
I have been a TurboTax.com customer for the last 7 years and I have only good things to say about them.
Let's be honest here. When a company produces a product that translates complex tax rules and qualifications to a simple step-by-step wizard that is understandable they are on to something big.
I particularly like how I can use previous year's returns therefore shaving minutes off my filing time. I love how I can save and resume where I left off or jump to particular sections of the filing process. For 2007, if I am not mistaken, they released their community feature that allows users to poll the public for answers to their tax questions. When I posted my question, I got a response in less than 10 minutes.
And the best part of using TurboTax.com is that I dont have to download any software. It is secure and housed on Intuit's site for next year's filing.
