Express Free Checking Reviews

I opened a KEY EXPRESS checking account this past Saturday-Memorial Day weekend. I asked the bleached blonde bozo if I could have $100 from the payroll check I was depositing. 'OH NO!" No....we have to wait 48 hours until we can issue funds! But...I can let you have $50...THAT'S ALL!
The she started to tell me that my "FREE CHECKING" would cost me $20 to order checks! I went ballistic on her. 'Where's the FREE CHECKING?' "well...the free checking implies that using our system is FREE!"
The next day I needed to speak, via phone, with an online customer care agent to help set up my online banking. When I got to my online account, I noticed that I had an available balance of $100.00-the balance on hold. when I questioned the operator about this, she said, as policy, on any checks deposited, we make up to $100 available!!! So...no funds access and NO checks. Wait til the bank opens on Tuesday...!
Free? Not really. This account charges fees for any withdrawl at a non-Key ATM ($2), has some type of complicated over-limit fee structure that is specifically designed to trick their own customers into paying ever-increasing fees (there really can be no other explanation for the absurd pending charges policies...why not just take the money out of the account when you withdraw it from an ATM? Most other banks would just do that...not Key. They wait for a few days, during which time they are anticipating a certain percentage of their customers will manage to withdraw more money (perhaps foolishly believing the "available balance" number on their ATM reciept, which is never, ever the actual available balance.) Basically, if you need a free checking account, you can't afford this one--you won't be able to keep the minimum balance required to avoid the escalating fees (one mistake could cost you $300 to $400 in fees...no, really...you can't believe all the little ways they have to do creative math...so, so slimy, but still legal...although there really should be laws..)
