This is a great service that M&T offers, everything is free. I love dealing with M&T. My pay check gets cleared fast, the customer service reps are friendly and knowledgable. They build a relationship with their customers. The green debt card is a eye catcher as well.

I have used M and T free checking for the past few years and have had a neutral experience. I don't feel much like anything but a number at this particular bank. The web site is often down for upgrades when I try to access it. Totally free... that is a misnomer, because there are fees up the wazoo with this bank..

I've signed up for web banking so that I can keep track of my transactions. It updates my account very quickly (within a day) upon withdrawals or deposits. Credit card payments made using this account might take a couple more days, but maybe that's just how long it takes the credit card companies to process your payment.

I opened this checking account when I first started college at SUNY Binghamton. Up there, there are lots of branches so it's easier to get access to an teller to ask any questions. But in NYC, it is pretty inconvenient. That is my only critique.
