Disability Insurance Reviews
My short term and long term disability is paid by my employer. I had a back surgery, came home , healed up, and got a staph infection and had to go back in the hospital for 11 days. I am on home antibiotics now and have a hole in my back that is being packed 2 times a day. I have a surgeon and an infectious disease doctor also. Mutual of Omaha wants to extend my benefits from 1 doctor appointment til the next. I have to call them every time to try to get my short term disability extended. I signed a release and faxed it back to them so they can get my medical information from my doctors. My last doctor appointment was 10/13/2009 and I was only paid $148. My next doctor appointments are 10/27/2009 and 11/03/2009. They have paid my full weekly amount up til now but I have had to call them every time to try to get my disability time extended. They should be checking with the doctors about my next appointments instead of cutting me off, then I have to call them again to try to get it extended again. This is awful that a sick person has to do their work for them. They act like they don't want to pay my benefits. I would hate to have to try to get my long term disability after all the trouble I have had just to get a few weeks pay. I used UNUM PROVIDENT a few years ago and they were great to me. Mutual of Omaha is pitiful and disgusting.

i was self-employed and paid almost $30K for long-term disability over the last 9 years. i was diagnosed with a panic disorder back in february. it's been very challenging getting mutual of omaha to pay. lots of administrative hassles - from their computers not having the right benefit amount (if i didn't have letters from a couple years ago confirming my benefit amount, i would have received 70% less than i was due!) to oh, now you need to do this... after five months of back-and-forth, they paid me for my first month. now, they are saying i should have applied for social security insurance. they waited almost six months since the date i first filed the claim. i think they look for any way to trip you up and not pay. it's very sad, especially when you consider how much i've paid for this policy. if they end up honoring the policy, i will continue to pay premiums. if they don't, i will drop 'em. waiting to see how this all unfolds. in the meantime, the hassle just delays my recovery time. what a waste!

Hurt my back , and have had to fight them every step of the way for short term disiability. they kept saying they never recieved any information from the doctor but the doctor's office had confirmation they had. I talked to several different people and some said they confirmed the doctors report some denied it. They would say they never got the invoice. Seems they didn't like to pay the required doctors fee for the information. Needless to say the whole time my family was doing without and we were trying to hang on to our home. We are going to food banks, cothes banks, anything we can. NOW, two weeks after the short term had ran out we found out we had to start the process for the long term which we were told would be a smooth transition we would not notice. BS>>>>>>>> ! 1/2 months later we are still recieving paper work and my work just informed me now that my short term ran out july 9th today is Aug. 15th and I would now be able to pay my own insurance premeiums. Yea, guess I'll file that with the foreclosure notice, and the power shut off notice, the car repossession notice, etc. My wife make 700.00 every 2 weeks for a family of 4 lets see 1000. house note, 400. utilities, gee ,car note food, gas, clothes, do we talk about medical ? What about school The schools want money at every turn for something now or your child want be able to participate and will be counted off on their grade. . My work won't let me come back to work because the doctor won't release me. and if they did they would fire me because I am now a liability. YES they do do that AND it is hard to prove they have been getting rid of all of the older workers since the down turn anyway to save money. There is noone in our shop over 35, the bulk of them are under 25. So between The insurance company and work my family is suffering. Thanks for all you have done Mutual of Omaha I'm sure MARLIN PERKINS would have been proud to represent oyu today.

It is too bad that Mutual of Omaha doesn't pay their short term disability policyholders the money that is due them in a timely, fair and honest manner instead of being totally dishonest CROOKS! I had surgery June 24th. I called them weekly and got the run around like telling me they didnt have the release of info form Id sent them FOUR TIMES. Today I called them 20 times. I filed June 24th and today is August 24th and I still dont have a check. They have the WORST customer service Ive ever experienced in my life. They deserve to be sued. Lets file a class action lawsuit!
My claim has been denied as well. I would definitely consider bringing a class action suit against them!!!
Is anyone interested in possibly filing a class action lawsuit against this company? This horrible company denied my short term disability claim even though I have been approved for long term disability.

mutual of omaha has denied my disability insurance now three times. I paid iinto the insurance when attached to a life insurance policy. I have been awarded 100% disability from the VA and have been awarded disability from Social Security. Does anyone know what I should do to get this insurance paid?

Always ... Always .... Always .... Send everything and anything to an insurance company by "Express Mail" Delivery. That confirms receipt of any documents mailed to them and legally makes a case for yourself. It also, eliminates many of the problems above. A little extra money for "Overnight Express" will go a long way in getting the insurance payments that you deserve. Best Wishes

I am currently on medical leave from work and filed for short term disability through this company. The policy is provided by my employer. My doctor made all the required certifications, provided medical records, etc. And the claim was denied. I am in the process of writing up my appeal, and I am considering having a lawyer get involved.

To hh25, wait until you try to file a claim, you will be denied time after time. I have been denied three times and still fighting with them. It has been a year. My doctor plainly stated twice that I could not return to work and should get disability. They denied anyway. I received my Social Security DIsability, but that does not matter. Except if Mutual finally pays you, then they will deduct what you get from Mutual by the amount you get from social security. What is the fairness in a policy like this. It was a waste of money on the premium. This reminds me of the movie "Rainmaker". Denied, Denied, Denied, what a way to do business. Signed "OutOfLuck"

I am still fighting with this claim department to settle a hospital/intensive care in-patient stay for a heart attack. This was a rider offered to my Father on an existing policy. The call center specialist are the only folks you can speak to and they know nothing other than the notes they can read from their computer screen. I was not able to find out who denied the claim, or a copy of the denial letter they say was mailed out in October. I have had a career in the Insurance industry for over 30 years and have never experience such an incompetent way of handling claims in my life. Do yourself a favor..save your money. If you have a heart attack policy, cancer rider or any other policy with this company. Cancel It now! I am not done with this company and I will fight them to the death of my father or my death which ever comes first.

My husband has epilepsy and has short term and long term disability with Mutual of Omaha. In April 08 he started having grand mal seizures at the rate of one per week. After his neuro tried different meds, he said that my husband is as good as he will get. He is an auto mechanic and he cannot work anymore. Mutual of Omaha finally paid him short term disability after must discussion and records but he still has not received his long term. Social Security has approved him and Mutual of Omaha still has not. He is still having many seizures. They sent us another letter saying that they want another 45 days to review it. April 8th will be a year he has not been able to work. DON'T BUY MUTUAL OF OMAHA INSURANCE!! They will not pay in the end.
