Free Checking from National City
This checking account doesn't have many perks, but the basics are free. There aren't any monthly fees or minimum balances, though you do need $50 to open an account. As with other National City checking accounts, the first order of checks is free, and you can earn points just for banking.

A five year customer and my account suddenly starts incurring account maintenance fees. When I called, they said I had set up a type of account that I hadn't. When I found the papers proving what I had opened, the manager refunded the account maintenance fees. Then the next statement arrived and there were several more, higher fees. This is a terrible bank, the workers were unprofessional to me and could really care less when I complained. When I said I would close my account the manager said, "Fine." I still don't know if the account is set as the way it's supposed to be, or if they just left it as a different kind of account and that's why all the fees are here. Who knows, all I know is I have lost money on it and it won't be refunded.

This is a good checking account for students you are not charged any monthly fees however you do have to watch out for hidden disclosure statements and hidden fees they charge you. I'm actually no longer using national city their customer serivce is horrible I can't stay with a company that thinks the customer is always wrong.
