I don't believe that the positive reviews above are legitimate. They smack of corporate shilling. Who is really going to go brag on their student loan company? Come on.

I didn't have a problem with Nelnet until they decide the 5.25% rate I have had was a mistake (it wasn't - they offered it and I accepted) and they decided to jack it up to 5.5% saying they had "corrected it."

I have asked them three times over the past week for the address of their legal department and gotten nothing but wrong answers and the run around so far.

Has anyone else had their fixed rate "fixed" by Nelnet in the wrong direction (up)?

STAY AWAY FROM NELNET BY ALL MEANS POSSIBLE!!!

I took out a $17k loan from them to help pay for college, and 17 years later the loan balance hovers around $20K. There minimum payments required are not enough to make a dent in the loan principle, and since I can't pay more, I'll have this loan for the rest of my life.

Sometimes Nelnet is easy to use, but for the last couple years they have consistently messed up my loan statuses and even made bizarre mistakes on my account info. It takes forever to get them to undo mistakes.

Nelnet has the worst costumer service, as i am writing this i am getting two auto payments taken out of my checking account for the past 3 months. i have fixed it via email and and talked to a repersenative on the phone (after an hour of being on hold), yet i just got billed twice again. once i was trying to get a deferment on my loans, i am in the navy and was on a forward deployed ship stationed in guam. i was told by one of there very rude repersentive that congress passed the deferment military help aid for the marines and army fighting in iraq. thanks nelnet. i can't wait to have you paid off so i don't have to deal with you ever again. and i actually pray that in these tuff times your business goes under. you deserve it.

STAY AWAY from Nelnet, or at least get EVERYTHING they say in writing. They offered me a 1% interest rate reduction after 36 on time payments, then refused to deliver though I met all the requirements. I spoke with multiple agents, each of whom gave a different ridiculous excuse. They have been rude and condescending, and I am forced to resort to legal action. Nelnet is a nightmare.

I have had my student loans with Nelnet for quite a while now. They have always been good at working with me when on deferring payments quickly when I am unemployed. Their online payment option makes paying my loans in a timely manner easy and stress-free. Also, their customer service department has always been easy to work with and get assistance from.

I have a student loan with Nelnet and I have always found it to be quite convienient. The associates are very friendly and extremely easy to deal with once you can get to them. They make it a point to help students afford school and make the payments easy.

Nelnet sucks pretty bad as far as ease in dealing with them. If you want to talk to a live breather it takes at least an hour of listening to silicon sally say how important it is for them to deal with you promptly and that a professional will be with you in a minute. They are also Johnny on the spot on calling you incessantly should you be a day late.
