I have always had State Farm insurance, and I love it. I have shopped around from time to time just to see what else is out there, and the rate I have from State Farm is as low or lower compared even to the discount and bargain insurance companies. The best thing about State Farm is my agent. He is a great guy, very accessible for questions, local, knows me personally and remembers me whenever I need to call him.
Everyone in my family has StateFarm insurance and so far there has been no troubles at all. Being a student, having state farm has benefitted me because our agent allows us to send in our grades after very semester and since i mange to do well in school, rates are reduced and also teh agents are friendly and helpful.
My family has State Farm Insurance for pretty much everything and so naturally when I turned 16 I was added to that long list. It was great, until I decided I wanted to move out and get my own insurance. My rates were extremely high with them. I was going to end up paying roughly $800 for half a year of coverage. The guy I spoke with has now called my phone five times since I got my new insurance elsewhere. I have informed him I was not interested and that I had insurance elsewhere but he still insists.
I have had an accident where the car was totalled - and it was a new car. State Farm paid off the loan and I recieved a small check in equity - I was pleased to see how quickly they handled the claim and how I did not have a deficit in coverage
Auto insurance is very subjective relative to your personal history, however as a commodity, the bigger players tend to have better rates. I switch to Allstate due to better rates and customer service. Both advantages of a big company dominating a commodity driven industry.
