Refinance Mortgage Reviews

My initial mortgage was with SunTrust and I am now in the middle of a refinance (also with SunTrust). When I initially applied for a mortgage about 18 months ago, I was putting almost 50% down, yet to get to an affordable payment, I selected a 10-year "interest only" loan at a fixed rate. Now that rates have dropped, I am refinancing to a conventional 30-year loan. I have mixed feelings about SunTrust. The mortgage officer appears to be nice and honest, but there is a lot of "double speak" going on, and I have to ask for clarification on a lot of the terms. What he says and what eventually happens may be diametrically opposed, so it is essential that I question everything on the forms. So I have some issues with the PROCESS. SunTrust takes my payment directly from my checking account and that goes smoothly. When I tried to pay off some of my principal, it was hard to get an answer to a few of my questions, but after several attempts, things were straightened out. Overall, I would suggest people do their research before making a commitment to any lender. Be sure you understand all the fine print!
