Banknorth has a policy in which they will only issue payment coupons in a maximum of 60 coupons per package. If, however, you have a loan term of 66 months, for example, they will then mail you the additional 6 coupons separately. Unfortunately, there is nothing at all to indicate that this is their procedure. We were customers who paid on time for 5 years and thought that we had finished paying on this loan. Because we had moved we never received the additional coupons. As a result, we missed one month. It wasn't until we checked our credit report which stated that we had a balance due on our account. We initiated contact and were received by rude customer service agents who never once indicated that they valued our business or appreciated our timely payments (we never missed a single payment). Instead, we were treated as scofflaws and debt evaders. They never once questioned the wisdom of their own coupon protocol -- which seems designed to create defaults. After this horrible experience, after 5 years of faithful payments, we just decided to pay the balance in full and sever our relationship with Banknorth forever. Buyer beware.
